My career journey with TüV SüD

Hi, my name is Anna Künzel. I started my career in the business development department for the lifts, cranes and conveyor (LCC) business unit in Munich whilst working on the thesis for my master’s degree 7 years ago. Now, I’m the lift expert and project manager in TüV SüD.?

My first year in the company started with comprehensive lift training. Accompanied by an experienced lift expert, I was presented with the opportunity to witness and perform inspections for a wide assortment of elevators. While the practical side of the training was fun, the theoretical side can be overwhelming. However, going through the process with a community of like-minded future lift experts was not only enjoyable but also crucial to my success in acing all my exams.?

As a lift expert in TüV SüD, I woke up every day with a clear mission to make the world a safer place. As cheesy as it sounds, the gratitude shown by our clients when they were told that their elevators can be used safely, without worries until the next year was priceless and that’s what motivated me to advance my career in TüV SüD.

Slowly, I started reducing my lift inspection activities and taking on national and international projects to promote new topics and trends in the elevator industry. As I really enjoyed the lift experts training with TüV SüD, I’m keen to share my knowledge and experience with my new colleagues. Therefore, I’m more than excited to take over parts of the learning and development portfolio.?

One of the biggest challenges I faced was to provide new functional safety training to the lift experts. PESSRAL (programmable electronic system in safety-related applications for lifts) has been a big change driver in elevator technology over the past few years, replacing the existing electromechanical safety functions. On top of that, the global pandemic situation made conventional classroom training impossible. As a result, I was tasked to innovate and come up with a new hybrid learning concept.

I constructed a learning roadmap that guides lift inspectors through learning nuggets with practical examples that can be accessed both online and offline on their mobile devices. The learning progress can be checked against pre-set milestones. Furthermore, additional questions will be answered through regular consultation with a functional safety expert. This provides the flexibility that the lift experts never had. The hybrid learning is now approved for a Proof of Concept run with some lift experts to gain the first feedback.

In TüV SüD, everyone is encouraged to learn from each other and share best practices. This not only empowers everyone in the team to share knowledge and experiences, but also fosters great camaraderie among the teammates. Do not miss the chance to join our wonderful team. We are currently looking for project manager who has great passion for functional safety and cybersecurity. Visit www.tuvsud.com/en/careers to find out more.?
