My Career Journey: From EMT to RN Clinical Trial Educator

My Career Journey: From EMT to RN Clinical Trial Educator

My career journey is a tapestry woven with threads of compassion, dedication, and a relentless drive for professional growth. It is a narrative of evolution from the adrenaline-fueled streets of emergency medical services (EMS) to the intricacies of clinical research and patient education in the realm of healthcare.

My journey commenced as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic, where I honed my skills in providing emergent care to those in their most vulnerable moments. The fast-paced nature of EMS instilled in me a sense of urgency, critical thinking, and resilience that would lay the foundation for my future endeavors. I soon climbed the educational ladder to achieve my license as a Paramedic.

After working in EMS for a decade and obtaining my license as a paramedic, I felt a pull towards expanding my clinical expertise. This led me to pivot towards becoming a registered nurse, where I delved into the specialized realms of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Cardiovascular Recovery ICU. The dynamic and high-acuity environment of critical care nursing sharpened my clinical acumen and instilled in me the value of meticulous patient care.

A desire to explore the intricacies of healthcare beyond the bedside prompted my transition into clinical research as a Clinical Research Coordinator. In this role, I immersed myself in the world of clinical trials, working at the intersection of patient care, research integrity, and regulatory compliance. The opportunity to contribute to the advancement of medical knowledge and patient outcomes ignited a new passion within me.

Building upon my foundational experience in clinical research, I transitioned into my current role as a Clinical Trial Educator. In this capacity, I serve as a bridge between research teams and healthcare providers, educating and empowering individuals about clinical trial participation. It is with much pride that I am able to assist research sites in building strong referral networks and seeking out patients by multiple means. This role allows me to leverage my diverse clinical background to facilitate patient-centered care and promote research literacy within healthcare settings.

My academic journey mirrors the trajectory of my professional growth. I pursued an associate degree in paramedicine, followed by an associate degree in nursing to enhance my clinical competencies. Subsequently, I earned a Bachelor's degree in nursing, expanding my theoretical knowledge and leadership skills in healthcare.

Driven by a commitment to lifelong learning and a passion for public health advocacy, I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in Public Health. This educational pursuit underscores my dedication to promoting population health, advocating for health equity, and shaping healthcare policy to optimize community well-being.

As I continue to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of healthcare, my career journey stands as a testament to the transformative power of passion, perseverance, and a thirst for professional growth. Each chapter of my career story has shaped me into the healthcare professional I am today—a compassionate caregiver, a meticulous researcher, and a fervent advocate for patient-centered care and public health empowerment.

I have had a similar journey. I was a LPN first, then got my EMT. I worked and got my RN, BSN and MSN. I was blessed with the opportunity to work as a nurse educator and now am a clinical territory business manager

That’s the same as me! I was an EMT, then Paramedic, became a PICU RN (at UMMC like you) and have been in research since 2008. I was a SC until January 2023 and I’m now a PM with Evidera|PPD.
