My Car was Hit Yesterday

Someone hit my new Acura MDX in a parking lot yesterday.
The man that hit me immediately got out of his car with his wife and son. The son was maybe 12; he started apologizing profusely. I could see anxiety raise in the eyes of both parents.
I looked at the family and then back to my car's bumper. My car had a smashed right rear corner. I felt no emotion about seeing my car damaged. When I looked back at the family I felt their pain and got sick to my stomach.
The man took out his wallet and in broken English asked me how much I want as he began to empty his wallet. I told him not to worry about it and to have a Merry Christmas. Then I quickly left as not to cause him more anxiety.
I feel really good about my decision. My spirit has been on cloud 9 for the past day. Unfortunately, if it was not Christmas time I am not 100% sure I would have had the same reaction. Being giving and gracious always makes me feel wonderful. I should do it more.
