My candid conversation with aspiring CEOs at the McKinsey Global Business Leaders Forum
- Don't be afraid to make transformational moves, but do your homework to inform those decisions.
- Hire people who are smarter than you and give them the runway to succeed.
- Have someone on your senior team who you can trust to tell you the truth - no matter what.
- Recognize that everyone has biases, even you, so engage others who can present facts objectively.
- Build strong relationships with your Board and lean on their expertise.
- You can't promise employees lifetime employment, but you can provide lifelong learning opportunities.
- Make sure you leave the company better than when you found it.
- Get yourself a dog because you'll need some unconditional love.
