My C-19 Journey

My C-19 Journey

80% have it mild, I was lucky to be one of them. Here's how it went. Please excuse the pun, if any!

Day 1: Usual cold, the same I’ve been facing since childhood. Had a Cetirizine but couldn’t sleep before 3:00 AM. It’s a little more bad (not worse) than earlier. Ageing huh!

Day 2: Fever since morning. This is strange. It’s been long I had fever. Hovering around 99 with lots of ache and fatigue. Don’t want to talk about the C-19 fear, don’t want to blame and take names. Total denial mode!

Day 3: Complete state of non-belief and denial. I didn’t go out of my house, neither did kids. How can this devil gate crash my house-pawri un-invited? Fever persists, so does Fear. Oh yes, once I’ve been to the shop to buy mangoes, coz the delivery guy ensures he supplies the worst of the lot. Maybe I picked up the “C-19” at the shop. Big mistake!

Realisation: Bachhon ke aam khudse zyaada khaas nahi!

Day 4: I have breathing issues for the last 20 years. Poor lungs have felt the brunt of steroids, pain, breathlessness and what not. Afraid, as I imagine the worst. SPO2 check. Pulse OK. C-19?

Day 5: The most important day, its said, where things can either ameliorate or worsen. Headache, steroids, Social Media, Videos with all sort of leaves and barks of trees. The Day is different with a mental breakdown by its end. Overflow of information is bad, question your doctor, take second opinions, but then trust him and don’t imagine that the worst will happen. "NO CT SCAN NEEDED", My Doctor insisted twice. PERIOD.

Day 6: OK, so fever goes down, but fear’s viagrated. The silent P (in Pneumonia) is the new C. Has it started creeping in? Lungs, are you OK?

Day 7:  CT Scan Day (F the Doctor), and I am dressed up in beautiful white overall, no one would want to wear, called PPE. CT Scans can lead to cancers later on, opined a senior doc. Who cares, prompt gratification is in.

"No damage done, get lost!" the machine shouted.

Day 7-15: Time to recover, medication, meditation, watch Netflix, read books and stay positive. It’s a mind game after all.

PS: Now that I see it in hindsight, the above is true for mild cases like mine. However, many have lost their kin to this dreadful disease. So we cannot let down our guard. Being aware is key. Take care and stay safe!
