My Bipolar Nutrition Plan

My Bipolar Nutrition Plan

First Up Liquids:?

Caffeine is a no-no for me now. I still love coffee and it is a good vehicle for fats so currently I do an organic decaf bean at home, two shots of decaf espresso from it mixed with MCT oil and raw heavy cream.Caffeine impacts both dopamine and serotonin neurotransmitters so you guessed it, no bueno for bipolar.?

Alcohol is an absolute never ever now. I take an anti-psychotic and the list of risks of combining the two is extremely dangerous, not to mention it dramatically impacts dopamine levels so if you are already in a manic or hypomanic state, hold on cause the rocket is about to leave the train station.?

Food, all the delicious food:?

You won’t want to hear this, hell I don’t want to hear it but the simple fact is that any and all refined carbs do…yes you guessed it mess with your dopamine and serotonin levels. Yes I want the bread, the pasta, the rice, the cake but more importantly I want my sanity more than I want a sandwich.?

Now I don’t do a traditional keto diet which is what I am guessing you are expecting. Yes, my diet is mostly red meat and fats but also a lot of things that grow on a tree (I won’t dive into that theory but happy to explain if you’re curious)?

My main diet is:

Fruit from a tree, so oranges, apples and bananas most of the time. Avocados are an everyday thing for sure which are super high in fat. Fruit I keep to before noon so any glucose from it is burned off by the end of the day. Also always whole fruit, never juice.?

Next is meat, all the grass fed and wild meats. Grass fed and finished fatty beef is the predominant because it is easiest to procure but I do try to mix in Elk and Bison when I can. I wish I liked venison but I just don’t. The reason it must be grass fed is the micronutrients I need are most present and bioavailable in those meats. Also always cooked in raw butter, I do not use any oils of any kind.?

Eggs are also a daily part of my diet but yes, I am a total egg snob. I eat pasture raised, heirloom blue eggs which are actually fairly easy to find at a Whole Foods or Fresh Market and I am sure other places. Once again, more bioavailability of nutrients. And the yolk is the most important part, it is where most of the nutrients live.?

I do also eat fish but only, I repeat only wild caught which tends to be harder to find where I live. Farm raised fish is toxic and navigating seafood can be complicated so I just don’t normally end up there.?

Lastly is dairy. I mentioned I use raw cream but also raw butter and raw cheese. The simple reason is it has more bioavailable nutrients due to the way it is made. The FDA technically forces farms to sell it as pet food because they are archaic but I have been using it a while with zero issues ever.?

So you are guessing my cholesterol is a mess and I am heart attack bound. The exact opposite actually. Because of my meds my blood work is done twice a year and I can tell you what my doctor always says, my blood work is impeccable.?

I am not saying this diet is for everyone but I can tell you it works incredibly well for me.?

I love this breakdown. And isn’t it weird the fda labels nature as not for human consumption. My friends getA2 milk. Anyway. Great accidental article

This is really interesting Andrew. Thank you for sharing it. As someone who suffers from high cholesterol, you’re right — that was my biggest surprise. Any explanation why your cholesterol levels remain healthy? It is just genetics?
