My biggest fear for the next gen of entrepreneurs

The new generation is so into entrepreneurship that their idols are Zuckerberg, Spiegel and Vaynerchuk. I'm excited and trepidatious about this. 

On one hand, I love being my own boss and love the entrepreneurship game. Sometimes I think I was born to do it. Other times I think the skills can be taught and anyone can do it. True there are different levels of the game, so anyone could play in the "little leagues" of entrepreneurship in reality. 

But one thing that makes me nervous about the next gen of entrepreneurs, is the rhetoric they've been fed. They see 2 year old companies worth billions and founders walking away with fortunes and they think this is not only attainable, but the norm.

They focus on the pay day. They focus on making the next unicorn so they can sell it to Google, Facebook or Apple and then they can live happily ever after traveling the world and enjoying the "instagram" life. Spoiler alert - unicorns are mythical beasts only written about in fairy tales.

I'm not here to crush dreams or to tell anyone they can't do it. I am here for the opposite, I want to inspire entrepreneurs to go for their dreams and go for the big dreams, but I'm hoping those dreams are for the right reasons. Reasons beyond the money and fame. And I'm here to put a reality check back into the minds of the young ones coming up to unseat the Zuckerberg's, the Spiegel's, the Vaynerchuks, and eventually the Kubbernus's. 

So my message to the next gen. You can do it - but you better want it for the right reasons. Because if you don't, you will be sorely disappointed and left with only dreams and I desperately want you to make those dreams a reality.
