My BFF: The Patron Saint of Pranks

On April Fool's Day, I'd be remiss if I didn't dedicate a blog to my bestie since 7th grade, Marovich, the Patron Saint of Pranks. Her clever little brain thinks in ways that elude normal people. I'm just thankful for the non-stop entertainment, even though I have oft been on the receiving end of her reign of hijinks and shenanigans terror for decades. (I've also been a co-conspirator.)

In a perfect world, Marovich would be a paid consultant for Impractical Jokers. And it wouldn't shock me if she was behind Governor Cuomo's recent and unfortunate wardrobe choice, showcasing his kinks. When caller ID became a thing, I was concerned our prank phone calls fun would be over, but not Marovich. She just found newer and more innovative ways to flip the script. Here's an example:

Last week we were comparing notes on Netflix docu-series TIGER KING. I love it when we're both on the same episode of the same series for our daily commuter chats. Her daughter, a.k.a. Shorty C-Spice, was also an avid viewer, so our text chains this past week have been filled with sick, hilarious TIGER KING memes and .gifs. So as Marovich was driving to work one morning, we were deep in discussion, busily diagnosing the TIGER KING cast of characters' psychological disorders. As a near afterthought, Marovich casually drops, "I told Shorty C-Spice that I paid $21 for an eight-minute call with Carole Baskin, but that she had to promise she wouldn't mention her husband's murder during the call. She totally bought it--hook, line and sinker. I still have it!" she laughed, in that self-congratulatory way of hers, when she's pulled off yet another prank, and I joined right in. But since this is precisely the weird shit Baskin would do to make an extra buck, I, too, found this totally believable. But I wasn't about to admit it.

After a lifetime of exposure to her shenanigans, I think it's time I petition our state legislature to commemorate Marovich every April 1st with her own official holiday--Illinois' Patron Saint of Pranks Day. Or, at the very least, a prank and scam awareness bill in her name.
