My Better Half

My Better Half

I’d like to introduce you to my better half – not as it may be used today, in a potentially sarcastic way, but more so as it was originally used by the Roman poet Horace. She is so dear that she is half of my being. Anyone who’s met us, immediately recognizes her as truly the better half.

Kimberly and I at a ball game

So, you’re wondering what makes her so great (or me so bad)? Kimberly has an enormous amount of patience and tolerance for people. All people. She loves people.

I have an enormous amount of patience and tolerance for technology (a prerequisite for the job), people – not so much.

She has friends that she has kept in contact with, and visits, from elementary and high school.

I don’t even remember anyone’s name from elementary or high school.

Kimberly teaches art history at the Merchant Street Art Gallery for Autism.

She volunteers at the Merchant Street Art Gallery for Autism and is on the Board of Directors. She also volunteered as a buddy for the Easy Street Theater, supporting special needs adults in stage acting and learned that more opportunities are needed for them to thrive.

I watched the play.

She also decided a long time ago that she was going to single-handedly save planet Earth by reusing grocery bags, overloading the recycle bin, and even picking up trash on our walks in the park.

I stopped littering.

She smiles at strangers and says hello.

I was taught never to talk to strangers. I’m pretty sure they’re okay with that because I’ve been told I have an angry resting face.

She was a Boy Scout Troop Leader for a decade.

I watched The Last Boy Scout.

She has saved numerous animals, including squirrels, raccoons, birds, cats, and dogs, to name a few.

I saved computers.

She’s done charity all her adult life.

Well... I am supporting her charity. She’s changed the world for the better for a lot of people, including me.

Kimberly has a dream, ever since I’ve known her to open a vintage purse museum, for “all things pretty.” A place where you can visually learn about history through art, fashion, and design.

She’s decided to merge her love of people with her love of vintage purses in a nonprofit Vintage Purse Museum that only hires special needs adults.

She was awarded a grant earlier this year and is up for another tourism grant. As a 501c3 charity, a local bank donated to her a building and she’s now making the magic happen for a grand opening in 2024.

Since this is my only social media platform, I’d thought I’d share her dream. My entrepreneurial history has taught me it’s not the dream people support, but the person, the visionary. This post is about letting you know that the world is truly a better place with Kimberly’s dreams.

If you like to volunteer, sponsor, contribute, donate, share ideas, or pitch using the museum as a showcase for technologies you can reach Kimberly through her website at https://www.vintagepursemuseum.org.
