My best tip for public speaking as an introvert

Hi Reader,
When I first started my journey into public speaking, I used to rush through my presentations. I wanted to get through it as quickly as possible, afraid that I would forget something or that I’d bore my audience if I didn’t hurry to the point. I eventually realized that this made me seem less confident and made it harder for the audience to absorb what I was saying.
?? Tip of the Day
Slowing down and pausing can significantly enhance your public speaking presence. But as I know all too well, it’s not an easy thing to do when you’re nervous!
To get more comfortable with it, try these tricks:
-When speaking virtually, take advantage of the setting and add a post-it note to the top of your computer that says: “SLOW DOWN!”
-Practice taking deep breaths at key moments in your presentation (this will also help with breath control)
-Observe your filler words — and every time you’re about to say one, pause instead
Give it a try next time you speak in front of a group – and let me know about your experience by leaving a comment or sending me a DM.
For more pointers on public speaking, check out these tips that helped me get my audience engaged, resulting in an average speaker rating of 4.9/5.00 by attendees!

8 个月Great tips, Lorraine. I agree that it's important to take your time and slow down when speaking publicly. It gives you space to collect yourself and breathe so you can avoid those awkward moments.

9 个月Beautifully expressed Lorraine K. Lee! Most people speak really fast which make them gasp for air at awkward moments. It's better to slow down and breathe to be clear and precise!
