In our latest Alliance for a Healthier Generation Impact Report, I mentioned that centering youth voice was a key priority, including collaborating with partners like UNITY inc. (United National Indian Tribal Youth) . These intentional relationships ensure all young people are healthy and ready to succeed.
Today (2/8), I had the honor of being with hundreds of youth at the UNITY Midyear Conference in Phoenix. It was my 2nd year at the Midyear organized by the incredible LorenAshley Buford
"My Best Self" Bracelet Activity
My workshop was simple... reflect on your best self and make a bracelet as a reminder when challenges arise.
Collaboration is Key
The best part of the activity were the conversations that happened during the activity. Having a friend help you tie the bracelet helped too!
Key Take-a-Ways
Other than setting out the supplies and providing the initial activity prompt, I said very little during the workshop. That was the point - create space for youth to share, talk and just be with each other.
Craft is a powerful tool to connect with history, culture, disconnect from technology, and foster breath/body connection. When you're breathing and working to tie a knot, you feel fully present.
