My Battle With Depression And How I Turned My Life Around

My Battle With Depression And How I Turned My Life Around

Today is World Mental Health Day.

I’ve never shared this before but back in my mid-20’s, on the heels of a serious relationship that didn’t work out, I was diagnosed with depression.

It was lonely, isolating, I had a negative loop running through my head non-stop, and I didn’t know how to cope with it.

My heart was broken and so was my mind.

My solution was to drown away my sorrows by partying.

While this offered me a temporary reprieve from 8 pm - 4 am several days a week, it was a superficial band-aid that didn’t address the real problem.

Once the partying ended I was right back to my negative place.

It wasn’t easy for me to turn to others to help with the pain because I didn’t have the emotional maturity to know how to do so.

I ended up going to a doctor and was prescribed some medication and then saw a therapist.

This was the first time in my life either of those things happened.

Amazingly, over time, they both worked and I was able to get out of my depression and off the medication.

I often say that this period of my life is the best worst thing to ever happen to me.

It is the worst thing because it was absolutely the worst.

I’ve never felt as emotionally broken, hurt, and lost as I did then.

It is the best thing because of the person I am today.

Because of going through the darkness I decided to change my life and my mindset.

Ever since then I have worked out at least four days a week for the last 12 years.

I made a lifestyle commitment to be physically active because if you look good and are healthy then you are going to feel good.

I then decided to triple down on my personal development and mindset.

I knew that no matter what happened in my life and business and relationships that no one could ever take away from me the things that I’ve learned.

I realized that if I was going to have big goals and big dreams then I couldn’t let anything stand in the way of making that happen.

That’s why I am the eternal optimist and ray of positivity that you see today.

I don’t have time for negativity in my life because I’ve seen what that is like and it’s not something I want any part of.

I wanted to share this so it hopefully can be an inspiration to someone who is going through a tough time.

The hard part about going through hard parts of your life is that it is hard to talk about and there often feels like there is no solution.

It wasn’t until I was able to talk to someone about it that any part of my life got better.

I am proof that things can turn around and you can create the life you dream of.

The key is you have to be willing to take the first step and then as the process evolves commit to change.

Change isn’t easy but when you get to the good side, it’s well worth it.

Sending good vibes your way.
