My Barcode Verifier is Old but it still works - doesn't it??
If your Barcode Verifier is not labelled as an ISO model or was bought before 1995 chances are the results it provides are hit and miss at best!
Pre-ISO models used a method called Traditional Testing for checking barcode quality and involved scanning the barcode once. The results were listed as an A, B, C, D or F level and were seldom consistent as the way the user held the verifier and swept across the code would often change the results.
In 1995 the ISO standard was introduced and included a quality control on the hardware used as well as the Verification Method itself - and guess what happened? Almost all the Barcode Verifiers either failed or the cost to make them comply was deemed too high and were discontinued. You can imagine the rush to sell these products off and the market was flooded with these non compliant devices!
ISO results now list as a level 4.0 down to 0.0 so the introduction of a decimal result made the results much clearer.
Many users still have these old units and continue to use them for Verification of their Barcodes - unaware that the results are seldom accurate or even comply.
Using an ISO grade Verifier guarantees the results are consistent and seldom involves any more interaction than pressing a button. ISO units are also required to undergo recertification annually to meet quality standards - its a bit like getting your car serviced and it's essential in ensuring your verifier complies to the standards and is in top condition!
