My AWS Certified Data Engineer Associate DEA-C01 Exam Experience 2024
I have completed the online DEA-C01 exam for AWS Certified Data Engineer – Associate certification. Surprisingly, it shares some similarities with the content of the AWS Certified Data Analytics Specialty exam, though not identical in depth. This new Associate-level test intends to affirm IT Professionals' expertise in essential AWS data services, including implementing data pipelines, optimizing costs, resolving data workflow challenges, and applying data engineering principles within the AWS environment.
AWS Certified Data Engineer – Associate Exam Details
The DE1-C01 exam for AWS Certified Data Engineer – Associate certification is priced at $150 USD. It consists of 65 questions, presented in either multiple-choice or multiple-response format, and you have a time limit of 3 hours or 180 minutes to complete it. The exam can be taken either at a Pearson VUE testing center or via an online proctored exam. Opting for the online option, I took the test on a Sunday morning without any complications, using Pearson’s OnVue app. To pass, you need to achieve a score of 720 out of 1000, based on a scaled scoring system.
Your results for the DEA-C01 exam will be accessible within a few days. Upon passing, your AWS Certified Data Engineer Associate certification will be promptly added to your account. This new Associate-level exam serves somewhat as a successor to the AWS Certified Data Analytics – Specialty test, which is scheduled for decommissioning on April 8, 2024. Originally slated for an April launch, the AWS Certified Data Engineer Associate exam was rescheduled to March 2024, several weeks before the complete phase-out of the Data Analytics – Specialty DAS-C01, Database DAS-C01, and SAP Specialty exams.
Compared to the AWS Certified Data Analytics – Specialty exam, the new Data Engineer – Associate certification test primarily provides a high-level overview of data engineering concepts. It covers aspects such as data ingestion, transformation, storage management, security, and governance. However, the DEA-C01 exam does not extensively explore advanced topics like Observability, Data Collection, Visualization, and similar areas. Additionally, there are a notable number of questions pertaining to Machine Learning. Despite these variances, based on my personal assessment, I would estimate that these two exams share about 70% to 80% similarity, largely due to the overlap in the list of AWS services covered by both certifications.
