I was at the Apple Store today to test out the Apple Vision Pro (AVP). They have a very well-orchestrated demo process that was smooth, efficient, and salesy. There was some head measuring (done on the iPhone), along with finding some lenses to replace my glasses. Like most Apple gear, the device was easy to use and quick to learn. It connected hand and eye movements in a few quick steps, and off we went. While Ryan sang the praises of each action I took, like 3-D photos and videos taken by the Vision Pro and an iPhone 15, he also showed me an immersive video shot in 3-D and a 10K video. Awesome.
My vision for the device would be to look at professional applications like working with teams to explore collaborative activities in a virtual world (one of my clients has 25% of her team who won't come into the office. Explore how to address conflict management in a virtual training ground. These ideas are not new to discussions in the metaverse, and whether the AVP offers a better use of these ideas than Meta's Quest, I don't think so.
So the "wow" factor is definitely there, and making the conversion to a business application will require the skills of a good developer but also good visionaries who can see those possibilities.

I have to admit that while I see myself as a strategic thinker (as does my Gallup Strength Finder), there are multiple kinds of strategic thinkers. For example, one kind of strategic thinker sees "the field" ahead of them and can see how to navigate that field to reach a goal but can't see over the horizon. This is my strength. Another kind of strategic thinker doesn't see the field very well but has the imagination and vision to see over the horizon. That is the person that the AVP needs to find the most practical uses.
