My Apologies!

My Apologies!

Hello LinkedIn family! After failing miserably with cold calling several years ago I looked to change the way I was doing things with my attempts to connect with folks to listen, learn and share my own personal experiences in IT, Enterprise Software and more specifically the value of Customer Experience Solutions. As you are probably aware I am passionate about this space and how it positions companies for the future as well as solving immediate business problems. Huge value!

Over the last three years I have worked hard to participate in relevant business groups, connecting with folks that share the same values and passions as well as developing my own personal brand and branded website: www.BillCookCX.com

The reason for my apology is that I now have over 323 unanswered requests for folks asking to connect to my LinkedIn Network and I am helpless to do anything about it! I am maxed out at the 30,000 connection limit for LinkedIn. LinkedIn suggested that I fire some of my connections and connect with higher value contacts. Well I am not firing anybody as I believe that everyone has some value to add with their own work and business experiences, especially in a social environment. So the only thing I can offer is to extend an invitation for folks to follow me. But LinkedIn does not offer a "follow me" invitation function and there is not an option to upgrade or pay for the ability to continue to grow your network beyond the 30,000. One would think that with LinkedIn not making their revenue expectations that they would look at loosening some of their policy limitations and offer upgrades to help with their revenue issues. Surely it is not based on platform performance issues with the count going beyond 30,000!

My take on this these days is that all of us in business or in school are sales people, consultants and experts of some kind as well as marketeers in some trade! It doesn't matter who you work for....social media offers the ability to gain knowledge and perspective for best practices, product and process reviews as well as looking for new opportunities. It is not just about obnoxious sales people trying to exploit connections. LinkedIn was originally designed and built as a database for recruiting in the job market. Well things have changed and it is time for LinkedIn to change. I do not want to have to go to Twitter. It is not managed as a professional network with 90% of it being spam. (just my opinion)
