My anger issues (and why I'm sharing them with you)

My anger issues (and why I'm sharing them with you)

Listen to my conversation about channel anger into creative work.

I recently had a conversation with a good friend that I want to share with you.

It's very personal: I talk about my own anger issues. I share a story that I made up for my two sons (The Angry Samurai). I discuss the power of transforming negative emotions into creative work, and more.

To be honest, it feels weird to share this recording. There's no sales advice, no SaaS tips, no startup strategies, nor entrepreneurship tactics in here.

But the reason why I want to share it with you is because anger is one of the core human emotions, and we all have found our ways of reacting to it. Yet, few of us have really mastered our anger. We might have gotten really good at our own specific "anger strategies", but we lack awareness for other possible options of handling anger.

Some dissolve it.

Some people explode.

Some people suppress it.

Some people use humor to diffuse it.

Some people "get mad, and then get over it."

Some people resort to passive-aggressive behaviors.

Some people let it cool down but hold on to it for a really long time.

Some people use it as fuel that drives them on their mission, they run on anger.

Some people transform it into something that propels them forward as a human being.

There's no right or wrong way when it comes to dealing with anger. But there are many ways, and being aware that all of these ways are available to you, and being able to consciously choose one, that's right. What's wrong is just having on reflexive way of handling anger and running on auto-pilot, no matter what the circumstances.

If you haven't yet, check out the podcast episode where I explore this!

I'd love to hear about your experiences dealing with anger.

Got an anger story to share?

Did anger ever lead to something really good in your life? Did I teach you something you needed to learn? Do you have a dope way of dealing with anger, or a particular area that you're struggling with? I'd love to hear from you!

Excuse this mild "blog-bomb", but I was searching for a way to pass you a complement. I just read https://blog.close.com/how-to-sell-consulting-services/ and want to share and encourage that this is a great post. It is rare to see something that demonstrates so well in and of itself what it also recommends

Steli Efti I always used to wonder why the early Close marketing efforts emphasized samurais and ninjas - it makes more sense now. Thank you for sharing your story with us and leading with vulnerability and kindness. ?

When I do get angry, I try and think about what made me angry in the first place. Was it irritation, a lack of sleep, lack of energy, was I unsuccessful at accomplishing a task, unhappy with a current situation, etc. I tend to hold my anger in, and either channel it into a task or let it out as irritation later on.
