As 2025 unfolds, alternative data and data monetisation are poised for a transformative year. Drawing from groundbreaking developments in privacy-preserving data collaboration and fintech innovations, here’s a look at how these trends will reshape industries and unlock new opportunities in the field I love.
1. Privacy-Preserving Data Collaboration Will Lead Across Sectors
Recent market movements, including my own work, signal the rise of secure, privacy-centric data sharing in sensitive industries like healthcare, finance, and retail. Technologies such as Omnisient - Collaborative Consumer Intelligence enable companies to collaborate on data projects without exposing sensitive information, meeting growing regulatory demands and consumer expectations.
What’s Next: Expect a surge in federated learning and encrypted computation tools, especially in industries with stringent data privacy requirements, enabling secure yet valuable insights.
2. AI-Driven Personalisation Will Dominate Retail Media Networks
Generative AI’s impact on retail media will continue to evolve. Tools like ChatGPT and intelligent recommendation engines will empower retailers to deliver hyper-personalised campaigns. AI-powered search tools and personalised content on platforms like Walmart.com are already setting the stage.
Why It Matters: The focus will shift from broad-based advertising to hyper-local and hyper-personalised campaigns driven by AI and real-time customer behaviour data.
3. Fintech Takes Data Monetisation to New Heights
Fintech companies are leveraging alternative data for personalised wealth management, payment solutions, and AI-driven insights. Integrating generative AI into client engagement, as seen with players like Nitrogen, will redefine customer interaction models.
Big Opportunity: Financial institutions will adopt alternative data for enhanced credit scoring, fraud detection, and predictive analytics, further monetising their existing data assets.
4. AI’s Growing Role in Healthcare and Life Sciences
AI is transforming disease management and drug discovery. From early detection of Alzheimer’s using AI models to RNA therapeutics targeting “undruggable” proteins, healthcare is on the brink of a revolution.? Local companies like Altron HealthTech are leaders in the field.
Key Trend: AI-powered insights from alternative data sources, such as wearables and genomics, will enable proactive healthcare strategies and significantly reduce treatment costs.
5. Alternative Data Democratisation Will Accelerate
Access to alternative data is no longer limited to hedge funds or multinational corporations. Affordable tools and data marketplaces are making it accessible to SMEs and start-ups, enabling data-driven decision-making at all levels.? This is my area of passion!
What to Expect: Democratising access to alternative data will create new opportunities for smaller players, fostering competition and innovation across sectors.

6. The “AI Agent” Ecosystem Will Redefine Transactions
AI agents are emerging as the next frontier for automation, particularly in financial transactions and personalised shopping. Companies like Coinbase are exploring AI agents that leverage crypto wallets for seamless transactions, bypassing traditional payment infrastructures.
Future Vision: As AI agents become more integrated, expect them to revolutionise consumer services and streamline B2B transactions.
7. The ESG Revolution Will Be Fuelled by Alternative Data
Investors increasingly rely on alternative data for real-time ESG analysis. Satellite imagery, IoT sensors, and social sentiment analysis are becoming critical in evaluating companies’ sustainability efforts.
The Impact: ESG funds that adopt alternative data will lead the market, offering unprecedented transparency and accountability in sustainable investing.
8. Data Monetisation Moves Towards Ecosystems
The development of cross-industry data ecosystems will enable businesses to pool resources and share insights securely. These ecosystems will generate new revenue streams while driving innovation across logistics, finance, and urban planning.
Case Study: Public-private partnerships leveraging shared municipal data for smart city initiatives will emerge as powerful growth drivers.
9. AI M&A to Surge in Alternative Data Space
The rising importance of AI in alternative data will drive mergers and acquisitions as companies race to integrate AI-driven insights into their platforms. The biggest players in AI, like Nvidia and Snowflake, are doubling down on acquisitions to enhance their data capabilities.
The Outlook: AI-driven data monetisation platforms will lead the next wave of corporate strategy, enabling better predictive analytics and customer engagement.
Final Thoughts
The convergence of privacy-preserving technologies, generative AI, and alternative data ecosystems sets the stage for an exciting 2025. From healthcare to retail, industries that embrace these innovations will gain a competitive edge and unlock new value streams. Some exciting companies to watch in 2025 include ShopriteX , Omnisient - Collaborative Consumer Intelligence , Datavant , Altron HealthTech , timbuk2.ai and Geo Intelligence Corp (GeoInt) .
Let’s shape this future together—what are your thoughts on the evolution of data monetisation in 2025?

Connecting The World's Healthcare Data
1 个月Matthew Bernath thanks for the shoutout. One area that is of huge interest to me is the "activation" of wearable data in research and in generating healthcare insights. I don't believe this data is being tapped into effectively and many data silos are being created across apps that track dimensions such as sleep, exercise, nutrition, etc. without coming together in a holistic picture. This is where privacy-preserving data collaboration plays a key role in bringing this data to the forefront & driving more personalized and prescriptive insights. Cheers!
