My Adventure to Chile
Exploring the Ollague
Before I started my journey to Chile I have to mention that we needed to wait quite a long time to pass through the border at Bolivia Border. Just before my journey here, some Mexicans told me that Chile had very good relations with Europe and he told me they were just like Europe. Well, I felt that was not the case at the border. They were checking every vehicle and every individual's bag. So try to avoid going into Chile from the Bolivia border. Thankfully they just asked about my bike whether it was electronic or manual (manual) and which border I was planning to depart from after briefly looking at my small bag. Finally, after two hours, we arrived in Chile. My journey to Chile began with a visit to Ollague, a small town located in the Antofagasta Region. The town is known for its stunning landscapes and the nearby Ollague Volcano, which offers breathtaking views. I had the opportunity to explore the town’s rich cultural heritage and interact with the friendly locals. The Ollague provided a perfect introduction to the natural beauty and warm hospitality that Chile has to offer.
Discovering Calama
From Ollague, I went to Calama, a city renowned for its mining industry and fascinating desert landscapes. Before my arrival, there were screams and cheers and I realised that Calama had become a champion if I am not wrong. Everyone was on the street celebrating with their team t-shirts on. So exploring the town was a great feeling that felt like just Europe UK. I congratulated the team supporter during my visit for their success. One of the highlights of my visit was the Chuquicamata copper mine, one of the largest open-pit mines in the world. The city’s unique blend of modernity and rugged natural beauty left a lasting impression on me.
Exploring Antofagasta
Next on my itinerary was Antofagasta, a coastal city known for its stunning beaches and vibrant culture. I spent my days exploring the city’s historic architecture, indulging in delicious seafood, doing my work, cycling on the coastline and soaking up the sun on the picturesque coastline. Antofagasta’s laid-back atmosphere and rich history made it a memorable stop on my journey through Chile.
Relaxing in La Serena
Continuing southward, I arrived in La Serena, a charming city famous for its beautiful colonial architecture and clear night skies. I had the opportunity to visit the La Serena lighthouse, stroll along the scenic Avenida del Mar, and immerse myself in the local arts and crafts scene. The city’s tranquil ambience provided a welcome respite as I continued my travels.

Immersing in Santiago
The bustling capital city of Santiago was next on my itinerary. Santiago captivated me with its dynamic blend of modernity and tradition. From exploring historic neighbourhoods such as Barrio Lastarria to visiting world-class museums like the Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino, there was no shortage of cultural experiences to enjoy. I cycled from one end to the other of the city and it very cosmopolitan and busy place and right at the centre the buildings were similar to that in Europe. I visited the local local market and bought some vegetables and fruit to eat. The market prices were good and they were delicious. I did some work and then again I explored the city. The vibrant culinary scene and energetic street life added an extra layer of excitement to my time in Santiago.
Skiing in Portillo
My journey through Chile culminated in Portillo, a world-renowned ski resort nestled amidst the stunning Andes Mountains. Whether skiing down pristine slopes or simply taking in the breathtaking alpine scenery, Portillo offers an unforgettable experience. After an exhilarating day on the slopes, I relaxed near the border, savouring gourmet cuisine and reflecting on the incredible adventures of my Chilean journey.
Chile’s diverse landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and warm hospitality left an indelible mark on me. From the otherworldly beauty of Ollague to the cosmopolitan energy of Santiago, each destination offered its unique charm and allure. My journey through Chile was a testament to the country’s status as a captivating travel destination that seamlessly blends natural wonders with vibrant urban experiences.
