I didn't plan it this way, but over the course of the past month, I managed to appear on three great podcasts that cover topics ranging from engineering culture, scaling tech, and product management.

Here's more about my recent podcast appearances.

Engineering Culture by InfoQ: Product Mastery in Corporate Software

In this episode of InfoQ’s Engineering Culture podcast I talked to Shane Hastie, Lead Editor for Culture & Methods about my experience working with organizations that build software for internal use, emphasizing the importance of product management in these contexts.

Key Takeaways

Product management in non-software companies often requires convincing organizations of its value, focusing on solving the right problems and achieving desired outcomes.

Good engineering practices in large corporations can be motivated by modeling behavior, showing results, and having support from technical leadership.

The product operating model emphasizes collaboration and addressing four key risks: value, viability, usability, and feasibility.

Effective product management involves focusing on metrics that measure outcomes rather than just delivery of backlog items, including stable (long-term) and temporary (change-oriented) metrics.

The "player coach" role in product management allows experienced professionals to model best practices while actively contributing to projects, providing hands-on guidance and knowledge sharing.

Scaling Tech Podcast: Diving into the Best Product Management Techniques

Every software team is different and requires a tailored approach to thrive. It’s essential to discover what works for your specific team to achieve product perfection.

In this episode of Scaling Tech, Arin Sime and I dive into the best agile principles in software development, differences between product roles, and tips for improving productivity within a software team. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

Check out the episode and get ready to make notes as we explore product management and good agile practices.

RocketShip.fm: AI Meets Product Management: Insights from INDUSTRY: The Product Conference

In this unique episode of Rocketship.FM, host Mike Belsito explores the cutting-edge intersection of AI and product management. The show kicks off with an introduction to Google's Notebook LM, a groundbreaking AI research assistant. Then, in a twist, we present an AI-generated summary of the most recent edition of INDUSTRY: The Product Conference, showcasing key takeaways on team structures, customer focus, AI integration, and essential human skills in product development.

So I didn’t actually appear in this podcast, but Mike used the INDUSTRY Notes I curated as the input for the AI-generated summary.

If you’re curious, you can see those notes on my writing portfolio site.
