On My 50th Birthday!

On My 50th Birthday!

Today, I’ve turned 50!

Yes! It’s my birthday.

And when I reflect back on where I come from and most importantly, how far have I come in my journey while living my personal & professional life, I can only realize that time really flies.

But if we commit to living each moment while being a life-long learners and contributing to humanity with our knowledge, skills and expertise, I believe that is an incredible way to add up to our actual accomplishments in life.

And so, on the occasion of my birthday, I thought of sharing something that might ignite the SPARK within the readers, especially women, and maybe help them find a ray of hope to just put one foot forward and start working towards creating & living their dream lives.

When I look back at my life’s journey, the one life lesson that I always want to share with people is the importance of Patience in achieving life’s greatest goals.

Though there has always been some turbulence happening around us, but let’s take an incident the harsh effects of which is something we all have experienced in one way or the other- the happening of Covid-19.

For the last 2.5 years, we have been witnessing a voluminous increase in global events, the major being Covid-19 that forced the world to stop immediately posing the threat to valuable lives.

And the very next threat that happened was the danger to the global economy and thereby impacting our professional lives- whether we would still have a job, whether we’ll be able to continue with our business, etc.

Uncertainties are always there around us in some form or the other.

But what is important is HOW exactly we deal with such adversities during such uncertain times.

And to me, the only word that comes to the forefront of my mind is ‘PATIENCE’.

Patience is a strong virtue which comes to your aid whenever you are feeling distressed and whenever you are losing hope.

A very famous quote by Joyce Meyer on Patience is:

"Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting.”

So let’s say you are not getting your dream job or you didn’t get to travel to your favourite destination or you failed to clear an entrance exam and you lose all hope, you become impatient, especially women who are on a sabbatical due to marriage and the greater family responsibilities that come with it.

So does that mean this is the end and you can’t change your life’s situations?

I would say- ‘A Big NO’!

If that would have been the case, I would never have been where I am today in my professional life.

The only thing you must have is ‘Courage’- to believe in yourself and put in your efforts- and ‘Patience’- to watch out for the desired results.

Whatever the situation may be and wherever you are in your journey in life, always remember you have got this.

It’s ok if you didn’t get what you want at this particular moment.

It’s ok that you’ve wanted something totally opposite to what your life is at present.

Now you might have another pressing issue going on in your head- “But I’m no more a 20-Year-old dreaming of achieving something good in life.”

Maybe that little voice in your head says “This is no more an age where you can just start doing anything randomly” or something like “You are good where you are, you have a stable life, why even thinking of doing something you’ve never even done or tried before”.

Well, I’m actually not surprised if you’re feeling that way.

We all are used to hearing ‘We Can’t’ even before we even thought of saying ‘Yes! We Can’ to anything that we really want to do in life.

These little voices come into full play and stop our thinking process.

But you know what! These voices are nothing but the limits that we are so used to putting on ourselves.

And most of the time, these are not even something we really believe in but the results of the small talks our society has put us into.

But it’s high time that you realize that this feeling of ‘I Can’t’ is actually crippling.

Every human is gifted with the inner power to really contribute to this world and if you’re not putting in the efforts to realize what you’re really capable of doing, you’re actually doing a disservice to your God-gifted strengths.

Mark Twain so beautifully mentioned his views on if age really matters. He said,

“Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.”

So always remember- “Age is just a number. You can achieve anything you want in life, the only condition is if you are allowing yourself to actually do what is required to be done so as to help you reach your goals or are you restricting yourself from reaching greater heights of success just because of your limiting beliefs.”

Always remember these 5 lessons-

  1. Nothing comes easy in life. You have to put in hard work in whatever it is you are working for. And then have the patience to wait for the desired results to happen.
  2. Things may not change overnight. But it will change in your favour when the time is right.
  3. There is no end to new learnings, so always keep your antennas receptive to new learnings and information.
  4. The only limit is you- the limit that you put on yourself signifies the limit you put in your mind for yourself.
  5. Even if you didn’t succeed on the first attempt, it’s ok to restart again! Because now your learnings are backed by your past experiences and that’s your superpower.

Immanuel Kant once said-

“Patience is the strength of the weak, impatience is the weakness of the strong.”

And Katrina Mayer believed-

“Age is just a number we count until we’re old enough to know it doesn’t count.”

So decide today-

  • if you’re going to be patient and live the way you’re living at present and not putting in the efforts to think of achieving your dream life?

OR

  • You’re going to do whatever it takes to lead you towards your dream life and you’re OK with being patient with the time it might take for you to really succeed?

What is it that you choose?

Decide today!

Because the present is what matters in deciding how your future is going to be.

Like Harry Styles mention,

“Age is just a number, maturity is a choice”.

Be mature enough to choose a life worth living for.

Because even Abraham Lincoln viewed-

“In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count.?It’s the life in your years.”

Hope this post would inspire you to take action towards achieving your dreams.

Very well said ma'am...I'm sure this would be relatable to most of us..in particular I loved the quote quoted by you _ "Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting"
