My 5 Ways of Adaptability and Resilient in Bangkit 2023

“Do something today that your future self will thank you for.”

This is the quote that I have looked upon for years and one that brought me to join the Bangkit 2023 program. Beginning from applying with the goals of adding Hard Skills to my CV, I am amazed by how many learning opportunities were given. Here, not only could I gain the Machine Learning skills but also the Soft Skills I needed for my future.

One lesson is about the power of Adaptability, the importance of being flexible, dynamic, and willing to adapt to all kinds of situations, and being Resilient in facing all the uncertainty and the unknown. In this particular topic, Bangkit taught me the five ways of Adaptability: Ways of Interacting, Achieving, Learning, Working, and Thinking.

Looking back to the first I started and up to now that I have done several weeks of this program, I realized that some moments show those ways of adaptability, and I would like to share my experience here as shown below:

  1. Ways of InteractingObserving the behavior of the people in your surroundings and analyzing how you should act is, I believe, one of the first steps in adapting to the situation. Interacting with various people brings a new perspective that may or may not widen your mind. Here, I meet many new friends from different parts of the country, and with various kinds of personalities. Not only that, I was also given the opportunity to meet new instructors every week. All of these are experiences that prepare me to handle new types of people in the future.
  2. Ways of AchievingEach person has their own time zone and their capabilities. This is what the Bangkit program taught me during one of the soft skill sessions. This tells me that what I achieve now should not be based on and compared with others. From this, I was able to understand what it is that I have achieved and what I target to achieve in the next step. One example would be I completed at least 1 or 2 courses per week and obtained the status Ideal or Ahead of Schedule.
  3. Ways of LearningSimilar to the previous, the Bangkit program taught that each has their own preferences in how we learn, and at the same time gave us a lot of resources on how to do our learning. For example, I like to do my courses sequentially (I finish one course before continuing to the next). The fact that I was able to comfortably study Machine Learning at my own pace and also did my college study, I believe has shown the adaptability of learning.
  4. Ways of WorkingBeing comfortable studying in my own space meant that I had to pack my schedule every week and manage it correctly. This experience taught me how to be conscious of what is more important and what is less important so that I can plan it and do it accordingly. This led me to use Google Callender more frequently to keep track of what I should do to keep on track.
  5. Ways of ThinkingThis particular way, I believe, is the most crucial and significant to be developed as we will, at some point, encounter a situation where we have to change our perspective and see from a different point of view. I stumbled across said situation every time I attended the ILT session (from the challenges given by the instructor) and when I spent my time trying to break through the complicated coding assignment from my Coursera courses. These examples, I believe, have shown my thinking adaptability and that I have started to develop my own Growth Mindset.

In conclusion, the time I have spent in these several weeks as the Bangkit program student has given me an amazing experience and different sets of skills that I believe will be a tremendous help in the future.
