- I get up every morning at 5:00 am. It used to be earlier, but because I have added regular exercise to my regiment I have adjusted that a bit. This is my "me" time and I cherish it. It's where I refuel and refocus for the day.
- I drink 20 ounces of water first thing. It breaks up the overnight sludge feeling. (and of course, I put on that pot of coffee!)
- I make my bed. I used to do it because I was fanatical about neatness, now I do it more for practicing discipline and an immediate sense of accomplishment. It makes me feel good believe it or not.
- I read the Bible to gain wisdom and perspective. These ancient writings are loaded with wisdom and insights.
- I pray and listen to music or inspiring message/podcast. Music is like medicine. I focus on music that has a positive edifying theme and as well as encouraging messages. My music is mostly religious or inspirational. I also pray for guidance, wisdom, humility, and self control. I offer request for my needs and desires while expressing gratitude for what I do have. I pray for others including their needs, hurts and that they would find the answers to life by grace through faith in Jesus.
These are daily disciplines that I have developed over time. Some I abandoned for a season, but have realized how integral they are to my personal development and self-discipline. I literally jump out of bed in the morning looking forward to this time. Because of these practices, I begin the work day relaxed, focused, and typically at peace and full of joy. I now can "draw from this well" to be an to encouragement to others throughout the day. Of course, I have my days where it is more of a struggle to focus. On these days I might have to focus on just one thing like reading or listening to music If you don't have a morning routine I would encourage you to began developing your own. Many years ago as a teenager I began with just 15 minutes. Now it far exceeds that. Take baby steps and focus on consistency. It will be a game changer for you. You can do this! You need it! You deserve it! Let me know how it goes...
