My 4th TEDx - How to Get Invited to do TEDx Talks

My 4th TEDx - How to Get Invited to do TEDx Talks

I delivered my 4th TEDx Talk last month at the?"TEDX Youth" event at Chennai Public School.?

Picture this: the red carpet, the electrifying atmosphere, the anticipation in the air, and me getting ready to deliver my TEDx talk.

I was the first speaker of the day. As I stood backstage, a mix of excitement and nerves, I couldn't help but reflect on the journey that brought me to that moment. The stage wasn't unfamiliar to me, yet each TEDx experience is a delicate balance between vulnerability and delight.

Of the eight speakers they invited, 6 were their own exceptional students, and only two were from outside. My friend Vinay and I had the privilege of being asked to do the talk.?

The invitation wasn't just an acknowledgement of our ideas; it was a recognition of our ability to translate those ideas into a language that spoke to the hearts and minds of the audience.

When I shared the TEDx video link on social media, someone contacted me and asked, "Hey Siva, can you let me know how to get invited as a speaker in TEDx events?".?

He continued, "I always wanted to be a TEDx speaker, but I have no idea how it works. Help me on this, please."?

I shared a few focused ideas with them, and here they are for you.??

So, you've watched those captivating TEDx talks, and the idea of standing on that iconic red carpet with a microphone in hand has ignited a spark in you.?

Fear not!?Whether you're a seasoned speaker or passionate about sharing, getting that TEDx invite isn't as elusive as it seems.

Let me share a few gems based on my journey, and trust me; it involves more than just a sprinkle of magic.

1. Craft Your Unique Perspective:?TEDx events thrive on diversity and uniqueness of thought. What sets you apart? Identify your unique perspective on a topic that the world hasn't heard a thousand times before. Whether it's an unconventional life experience or a fresh take on a common issue, make your viewpoint stand out.

2. Tailor Your Story to the Audience:?Understanding your audience is critical. In my case, the TEDx Youth event at Chennai Public School focused on young minds. Most TEDx have a precise theme. Craft your narrative to resonate with the event's theme and audience. Speak their language, address their concerns, and watch the invitation roll in.?

3. Leverage Your Network:?Networking isn't just a buzzword; it's your backstage pass. My friend Vinay and I had a foot in the door because of a familiar friend who knows our work well. Reach out to organisers, attend local TEDx events, and build relationships. The TEDx community values genuine connections.?

4. Demonstrate Passion and Expertise:?Your enthusiasm should be contagious. When you talk about a topic close to your heart, you should be genuinely passionate about it. TEDx organisers appreciate knowledgeable speakers who can ignite that spark in the audience. They aren't looking for motivational or professional speakers; they look for ordinary people doing fantastic things that could be shared in a memorable perspective.?

5. Build a Strong Online Presence:?In the digital age, your online footprint matters. Share your thoughts on platforms like blogs or social media. Create engaging content that showcases your expertise and captivates your potential audience. TEDx organisers often scout for speakers online. They find speakers by searching for people working on the fields or themes of the event.?

Remember, the path to a TEDx stage is a journey, not a sprint. Embrace your authenticity, hone your skills, produce exceptional work, and let the world uncover your path to the grand TEDx platform.

Visualise this: the red carpet, the electrifying atmosphere, the anticipation in the air, and you get ready to deliver your 1st TEDx talk.
