For My 40 Plus Pros: Welcome to Not Dead Yet Professional! ????

Hey there, world. It’s me, carving out my own little niche in the corner of the internet because, let’s face it, I’ve got stories to tell and time to tell them. Cough cough...unemployed. Welcome to "Not Dead Yet Professional" — where age is a badge of honor and experience is our trading currency.
This isn't just a haven for sharing my own saga; it’s a treasure box brimming with career development insights, wellness wisdom to keep you at your peak, and timely trends to keep your 40-plus mind ahead in this fast-paced world. Whether you're navigating job interviews with folks who could double as your kids' friends, or just trying to stay sharp in an economy that loves a fresh face, we're here to tackle it all. Here, we don't just watch the job market evolve—we stay one step ahead, making sure you're equipped to leap right in with confidence.
So, why am I here, and why now? Simple. I’m at a crossroads. Like, standing smack-dab in the middle of life’s highway, deciding whether to hitch a ride to the next big thing or just jog alongside the traffic completely out of breath. Here’s the scoop: I’m a born-and-raised Bronx girl, double-degreed and seasoned in the fine art of project management—which, between us, I absolutely loathe. Now, I’m navigating the wild world of job hunting in digital marketing and strategy, because why not stir the pot? I'm a glutton for punishment.
Navigating job interviews these days feels a bit like attending a high school reunion and realizing you’re the only one who actually aged. And get this—I’ve been interviewing with director-level folks who could go toe to toe with my 29-year-old son playing Call of Duty. Picture it: me, the most Bronx person you’ll ever meet, and also the blackest and oldest in the room. It’s like being in an episode of “Twilight Zone” meets “The Apprentice”, the anxiety levels are catastrophic!
And yes, I’m 44 going on fabulous 45, sporting the kind of youthful glow that has colleagues reeling when they discover I’m not just a mom, but a mom whose kid is probably older than them. Sharing that bit always results in a show worthy of Broadway—complete and utter shock, jaws dropping like it’s hot.

Why a blog, then? I’m here to spill the tea on beating ageism while trying to snag a job you actually love, not just one that pays the bills.
Being in our 40s and hustling for jobs like we're fresh out of college is stressful AF. But here’s the straight truth: we’ve got the upper hand in ways the younger folks might have difficulty relating to. We've navigated more than a few recessions, corporate shake-ups, Biggie and Tupac murders, and the tech revolutions. Our experience? It’s not just a line on our resumes; it’s our secret sauce. So, don’t count yourself out because the calendar’s flipped a few more pages. The job market? It needs that seasoned swag that comes from years in the game. Let's not just fill roles—let’s redefine them. Because trust me, it’s not just about finding a job. It’s about finding where you fit, changing the game, and sometimes, even the players.
Here’s to making this a space where we can laugh at the absurd, cheer for the underdogs, and maybe, just maybe, tear down a few stereotypes along the way. Because in this digital age, nobody should underestimate a Bronx-born boss chick—especially not in this day and age. I ain’t dead yet; there is so much more life to live!

11 个月Thank you for this! I’ve been laid off since October. I’ve had great interviews that go over time because we’re laughing and sharing a great back and forth where I ask at the end of each, “Do you have any reservations about my background that I can address?” Everyone says I have an impressive background and skills that align. Why, then, am I 6.5 months unemployed? It actually very recently occurred to me after interviewing with a much younger than me visual design director that at 43, I might be getting “aged out” which is wild to me. I distinctly remember not feeling good enough as a green 22-year-old and couldn’t WAIT to be where I’m at now. Make it make sense LaToya D. Newton !
