My 4 Top Tips to Achieve Greatness

My 4 Top Tips to Achieve Greatness

I love personal development ideas! They are a valuable resource for understanding ourselves and the world around us. These new but mainstream science ideas offer insights into why we behave the way we do and how we can make positive changes in our lives. However, it's important to recognize that what we know and what we know we don't know is only a small fraction of what we don't know we don't know.

One study that highlights the transformative power of mindset is the research conducted on hotel maids in the United States. When asked about their exercise habits, the maids reported not engaging in much physical activity. However, when their vital signs were taken and they were split into two groups, something interesting happened. One group was told that the amount of exercise they got through their work was consistent with the recommended levels of daily exercise recommended by the Centres for Disease Control. The other group was not told anything. Both groups were not asked to do anything differently.

A few weeks later, the groups were brought back for follow-up measurements. The group who had been told that their work counted as exercise had, on average, lost 2lbs in weight and seen improvements in their cardiovascular performance. The other group showed no major changes. This study demonstrates the potential for our beliefs and mindset to affect our physical health and well-being.

In "The Code of the Extraordinary Mind," author Vishen Lakhiani identifies four key areas in which we can shape our behaviour to achieve more and reach our full potential.

  1. Escape the Culturescape: We are born into a world of culturally enforced "relative truths," or what Lakhiani calls "bullshit rules" (or "brules"). These norms and rules are often derived from a time in the past when they were important for survival. However, these brules may not always be relevant or accurate in the present day. By stepping outside the culturescape and defining our own truths, we can break free from limiting beliefs and behaviours.
  2. Choose Your Version of the World: We have the power to choose our own version of reality. For example, we can choose to believe that aging is not inevitable and that our bodies are capable of living for many years beyond what our culture expects. We can also choose to believe that despite what the news media may portray, there is more good in the world than bad. By engineering our consciousness and being mindful of when our actions are driven by cultural norms, we can make informed choices about our beliefs and behaviours.
  3. Learn to Be Happy in the Now: It's important to find joy and gratitude in the present moment, but it's also important to have big dreams and goals for the future. By balancing these two approaches, we can live a fulfilling life that allows us to be happy now while also working towards a better future.
  4. Find your quest; Our big dreams need to be driving us to a place where we are able to do the things, we love in life in a way that makes a positive mark on the world. What do you do that you would do even if you did not get paid. Could you find a way of channelling that into a product or service that made the world a better place -even just a little? If you can you have your quest.

Becoming great is a journey that requires us to be mindful of our beliefs and behaviours, and to be open to the possibility of making positive changes in our lives. By escaping the culturescape, choosing our own version of reality, finding happiness in the present moment, and embracing our quest we can unlock our full potential and live more fulfilling lives.
