My (4 Day) Life as a Magic Dealer in the Magic Capital of The World

Last week, for 4 days, I became a Magic Dealer.  And not just any old Magic Dealer, mind you........

I was part of a feeding frenzy selling to  Magicians who buy Magicians' Props during Abbott Magic Company's 79th Annual Magic Get-Together, in beautiful downtown Colon, Michigan.

Colon, Michigan is the home of the World-Renowned (to us Magicians, anyway) Abbott Magic Company, and it's known as the Magic Capital of The World.

Each year, hundreds of Magicians and would-be Magicians converge each year on this quaint little village to participate in this fun "Homecoming of Magicians."

For 38 years, give or take a year or two here and there, I, too, have been one of the "regulars"...meaning the Magicians who make the annual Pilgrimage to Colon and Abbott's.....but I have come as a Spectator/Registrant/Participant....NOT as a Dealer.

So, this year, things changed.  And here's what I learned:

1.  Boy.....being a Magic Dealer is a LOT of work!

(You're going each day from 1000 AM in the morning to Midnight or so.)  Not for the faint of heart!

2. It pays to do your homework before you sell Magic Equipment! 

Before I packed up my props in the car....I researched each and every prop to get a REALISTIC price for that individual prop....Every single reseller of Magic Equipment who came by my booth told me......"You're right on the money with your pricing..."  Yep.....Thank You for that!  The result: Magicians who know, know that you're shooting them Straight, Fair Prices... And Magic Collectors....well.....they just keep on collecting!

3.  Feeding frenzies happen!

(Using late Saturday night after or during the time you're packing your props).....And why not?........Last chance, right?

4. It's worth it!

What can I say?  You see a lot of old friends, make a lot of new ones, and head home with a thicker wallet and bigger bank account......works for me!!!

Will I be back next year as a Magic Dealer at Abbott's 80th Get-Together?
