- Integrity: Are you honest? Do you keep your promises? Are you the one who would never, in any circumstances, exploit the position and the company's resources for personal goals? Integrity simply means treating everyone with respect and maintaining a comforting environment even when not everything is ideal. It involves moral judgment, character, and honesty. Employers and organization benefit from integrity in the workplace, so it’s the first trait that is looked for in a potential leader.
- Competence: Do you possess all the competencies that are crucial for success in a functional leadership role? Every employee wants to have a competent leader who knows the business inside and out. It’s imperative for potential leaders to show their supervisors and peers that they possess the skills, knowledge, and experience which are indispensable for the leadership role.
- Passion: Are you passionate about what you do? Are you inspired enough to make a difference in the lives of others? It doesn't matter what industry you're in - employees need to know their leaders are as committed as they expect their employees to be. If you are the founder or president of a company, you got there for a reason. Passion fuels the energy, enthusiasm, and excitement required for any leadership role.
- Creativity: Do you have the ability to look at things in ways that others don’t? Do you foster innovation, progressiveness, and positivity in your work environment? As a leader, you are required to make a certain number of decisions that apparently won’t have a direct answer, so here creativity comes into play. Trying non-traditional solutions may help you to solve many unconventional problems.
