My 30th Day of Writing on Ship 30 for 30

Talks about Full Stack Writing and Freedom Lifestyle Building to help introverts escape the 9-5 grind. Scaled a £0 to £5k p/m niche website.

It has been a challenging 12 months.

In that time, my entire niche website business, a business that generated significant passive income, collapsed due to successive Google updates.

After the fall, I was grieving and hurting.

I swore off writing, wanting nothing more to do with articles or copywriting. Instead, I'd become a project manager, a gardener, or maybe a graphic designer. Anything to get me away from those goddamn words.

All that writing: It could go to hell.

But as the gloom broke, the light of writing shone through the cracks.

I pulled out my fountain pens, inked up, and started to write again. Dancing the pen across paper reminded me how much love flows from me for writing. Words let me live the best version of myself, even if just on paper. What a joy it was.

As weeks of penning ideas past, a desperate need to once again feed my passion washed over me.

I wanted, no, needed, to reignite the furnace that smithed so many syllables in the past. After Reading many of Cole's books and Dickie's posts, I knew Ship 30 was the match to light the coals under me.

So, I signed up for Ship 30.

And now, 30 days later, I'm $350 lighter but infinite amounts of writing wisdom heavier.

Below are some of the highlights from my voyage.

Highlights from the Ship 30 Course

  • Meeting Amazing People: There are some truly wonderful writers on Ship 30 who deserve to succeed. I am blessed to have met you all. You are the best part of this course, and I wouldn't have made it this far without your encouragement.
  • Structured Format: The course's 30-day fixed time frame was refreshing. I've taken many digital courses over the years, but this one is easily the best.
  • Data-Driven Approach: This resonated with me greatly, especially considering I developed a similar system called Agile Content Marketing For SEO over 5 years ago. It was great to have my ideas validated and know I was on the right track.
  • Use of ChatGPT: The heavy use of ChatGPT to help generate writing prompts for your niche has been great. Cole and Dickie have some fantastic prompts to use. But I like that we weren't asked to be overly reliant on AI and that we got to preserve each of our unique voices.
  • Finding My Niche: I've always struggled with this, so it was great to learn Cole and Dickie's system to niche down and create a category of one.
  • Course Pricing: At $350, the course is well-priced.
  • Bonus Courses: These were a nice little treat I've dipped into every day, and shockingly, I've managed to complete them all. I loved each and every one of them.
  • Typeshare Building Blocks: These are a very interesting idea and a great way to get writing started. It's way better than Wordpress's silly Gutenberg block system.
  • Typeshare Templates: These are great for inspiration, even if I don’t use them as is to write ideas down.

Overall, I'd highly recommend the course to anybody looking to get into writing online and learn key skills surrounding writing.

Moving Forward, Here’s My Plan:

  • Stay in Touch: I plan to keep in touch with some of the amazing people I’ve met on Ship 30.
  • Restart Ship 30: Yes, you heard that right. My plan is to restart Ship 30, but this time, each essay will be about the topic we learn each day. This way, I can really drill the ideas of the topic into my head.
  • Start Full Stack Writer: I want to succeed at making a living from writing. I know Cole and Dickie are the path toward that goal, so I plan on buying Full Stack Writer in the next few days.
  • Test Niche Ideas: I will keep testing niche ideas, gather more data, and double down on the winners that resonate.
  • Leverage My Love of Handwriting: Anyone who has spoken to me or read my writing knows that I love to write by hand. I'd love to eventually build a brand that relies on handwriting.
  • X Premium or Typeshare:?I plan on joining X Premium, but I’m unsure whether to keep Typeshare for its templates. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.
  • Writing on Different Channels: I plan to keep publishing on X and LinkedIn, but I also want to expand my content to other platforms such as Medium and Quora.

I hope the above has given you insight into my Ship 30 experience.

Gosh, I've learned so much. I still feel a little overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information this course provides. Simple ideas have had continental shifts on my well-established content marketing philosophy.

I'm still blown away. But more than anything, I've been blown away by you:

  • Bex's exploration of introversion is eye-opening.
  • Truman's Poetry is simply delightful, and I'd read a book of his prose any day.
  • Lora's stories of personal hardships and her immense strength of character.

And so many more of you. You have all touched my heart, and I will be forever grateful for you.

Thank you. Good luck bringing your unique and beautiful spark to the world every day with your writing.

All my love and kindness, always.

Nick. xx
