My 3 Words for 2023

My 3 Words: Deeper, Abundance, Joy

As we step into a new year, many of us reflect on what we want to achieve and experience in the next 12 months. I took the first month of this year tuning in to myself, my surroundings and listening deeply to what the world is saying as we journey into 2023. I know I am a little late to the party... and I would not do it any other way. I took my time, I gave myself space and a permission to truly dig deeper. Today, I chose three words that will guide me in my journey this year - Deeper, Abundance, Joy.

DEEPER.

My first word, Deeper, represents my desire to delve into a more meaningful and fulfilling life. This means exploring my passions, strengthening my relationships, and discovering new insights and perspectives without losing myself in the process. I want to go beyond the surface level and find a deeper connection with myself and others, maybe even deeper impact through the work that I get to do. I will continue to challenge myself with the question, "Will this decision or action serve to deepen relationships, impact, knowledge and purpose or will it distract you from getting there?"

ABUNDANCE.

Abundance, is an interesting one, and something that I truly thought long and hard about. I'm of the opinion that many of the things happening in our world today - war, power, competition, corruption, inflation, economic downturn - stems from a core of scarcity and greed. And I'm also operating from the idea that there is enough for all of us to thrive and be successful (if we are taking care enough not to abuse what's available to us). I’m hoping that despite a predicted difficult year ahead of us, I can stay steadfast in wearing a mindset of abundance in all areas of my life. This includes abundance in relationships, health and wellness, time, love, recognition, kindness, perspective and resources. My goal is to continuously seek for win-win-win collaboration that will elevate everyone. By asking myself regularly, "How might this decision or action elevate your life and others?", I hope I can attract more positivity and prosperity into my life and the lives of people around me.

JOY.

This was probably the simplest one, and as with all things, the easiest to miss when we are not fully present. It took me a whole month to figure out what my 3rd word might be to truly make a breakthrough this year (or others might say to close the loop). The word Joy, came to me in many moments of reflection. Joy is a very deep and personal word to me, one that brings a sense of lightheartedness and sincerity and intention at the same time. Joy is the fuel that keeps every day exciting and every action fulfilling. It allows me to be fully present and yet look ahead to the future with bright eyed wonder and curiosity. I will consciously ask myself, "How will this action or decision help you find inner contentment, be fully present and stay joyful in all your undertakings?" My hope is that by finding joy, even in the mundane, I can embrace positivity and stay grateful in the middle of my journey - some of the things that truly bring out joy in me.

I will filter all decisions and conversations against the lens of these 3 words: Deeper, Abundance, and Joy. By focusing on these themes, I hope to create a more meaningful and fulfilling life for myself and those around me. It won‘t be easy to stay consistent and I‘m counting on your support to stay authentic and intentional with everything I do this year! Tell me your three. I‘m curious and excited to dance through 2023 with you!

P.S. Thanks to Chris Brogan for inspiring me to expand my annual one word into 3. If you‘re curious - my word in 2022 year was Extraordinary… and I can say it truly was a year of extraordinary learnings, challenges and experiences both in personal and work life… and I'm grateful to be able to step into 2023 expectant and full of drive to make it an amazing one.

love this practice! I first did it starting 2020 with freedom. Little did I know then that the word would be completely redefined for me by the end of the year! this year I am conscious about surrender :)
