My 2022 Favourite Shows and Movies

People often ask me what I'm watching. As 2022 is about to end it's time to revisit and recommend some of my favourite shows and movies of the year.

SHOWS:

SEVERANCE (AppleTV)

What a subtle and intelligent series. So much respect for Ben Stiller who is one of the producers and directors.

WEDNESDAY (Netflix): No wonder it's one of the most watched shows on the platform. I’m blown away by the intelligent writing and stunning set-design. And I’m not even a Harry Potter (nor Addam’s Family) fan.

OUTER RANGE (Amazon)

Great concept and acting. Brolin at his best.

WECRASHED (AppleTV). Just fun to watch. I recommend pairing it with the real-live WeWork documentary (hulu) at the same time.

The Peripheral (Amazon)

I totally dig the nonintuitive way this ‘matrix’ is shaping up and can’t wait for Season 2. Based on William Gibson’s work.

MOVIES:

ELVIS: My all-time favourite biopic. Totally immersive experience even if you are not into Elvis' music, I promise. The set-design, sound and the acting are just pure perfection.?

ATHENA, A French film on Netflix that takes your breath from the first magnificent moment, a continuous 10+ minutes shot. Probably the best opening scene I’ve seen in five years. It’s a must-see for everyone interested in cinematography (don’t miss the making-of special, too). Side benefit: Brush up on your French vocabulary. ?

Everything Everywhere All at Once: I enjoy when filmmakers (Russo brothers and others) take risks and tell totally surprising stories. Loved it!?

All Quiet On The Western Front (Netflix). Time to sit back and reflect on this German movie. A classic magnificently crafted for today’s streaming audiences.

I look forward to a masterclass in modern filmmaking techniques (Avatar 2, Fabelmans) in the next few days and have so much more on my watch list (Succession, 1899, Morning Show).

What have you been enjoying? Any recommendations are always welcome!
