My 2022 best reads

? These books stand out from all those I have read during 2021. It doesn't mean the rest was no good. Often is not about the book itself but how it resonates with you or sparks your interest the moment you read it. I know my 30-year-old version wouldn't care less even about these here. Reading wasn't "my thing" back then. But when the student is ready, the teacher shows up.
I'll jot down one single sentence/excerpt from each as a highlight. Useless to say I have no affiliation with the authors or publishers, and this is just sharing and word of mouth.

Can`t hurt me - David Goggins:
“When you’re driven, whatever is in front of you, whether is racism, sexism, injuries, divorce, depression, obesity, tragedy or poverty, becomes fuel for your metamorphosis.”
Mindset - Carol S. Dweck:
“Believing that your qualities are carved in stone – a fixed mindset – creates an urgency to prove yourself over and over, as a confirmation of your intelligence, personality or character”.
Mistakes were made (but not by me) - Carol Travis & Elliot Aronson:
“Most people, when directly confronted by evidence that they are wrong, do not change their point of view or plan of action, but justify it even more tenaciously. Most of the times no using the initial reason for such decision or course of action but coming up with other justifications.”
Radical Self-Forgiveness - Collin Tipping:
“The important thing to understand is that the problem lies with the people judging, not you. It’s not your problem – it’s their problem.”
Net Positive - Paul Polman & Andrew Winston
?“Jack Welsh (GE′s famous leader) also admitted – shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world. Unfortunately, he said it after retiring. It seems CEO′s and political leaders are more courageous once they leave office.”

The Essential Jung - Anthony Storr:
“The downsize of abundant choice is that each new option adds to the list of trade-offs, and trade-offs have psychological consequences.”
E2 - Pam Grout:
“Most of the thoughts we assume are our own, are really the invisible and largely unquestioned beliefs we downloaded from others.”
Mindfulness and meaningful work - Edited by Claude Whitmyer:
“A relentless division of labor removed all sense of meaning from the production process. Even now, when we are supposedly protected by laws, regulations and union contracts,?few other animals would put up living as we live, confined and boxed and cabined; Indeed, many species, when captured and put in zoos, literally die first.”
Brief answers to the big questions - Stephen Hawking
“Science is increasingly answering questions that used to be the province of religion. Even people as tough as the Vikings believed in supernatural beings to make sense of natural phenomena like lightening, storms and eclipses. Nowadays, science provides better answers, but people will always cling to religion, because it gives them comfort, and the do not trust or understand science.”
Don't sweat the small stuff - Richard Carlson
“Often, we convince ourselves that our obsession with our “to-do” list is only temporary – that once we get through the list, we’ll be calm, relaxed and happy. But in reality, this rarely happens. As items are checked off, new ones simply replace them.””
Lifespan - David A. Sinclair
“Aging is a disease: We must move away from treating age-related diseases and focus on their root. Reclassifying aging as a disease is a critical first step in this shift in approach.”
? ?I have already a few ready to be picked up next (I need always some books on the shelve ready to be picked up). If you have any recommendations, please do so on the comments, I deeply appreciate it.
