My 2020 Recap

Want to share my 2020 journey as i Feel it was a big moment in my life or career at least,

It starts with END OF MY GSK JOURNEY:

After more than 7 Years in GSK and multiple roles in Market, Region and Global managing great brands like Panadol and Sensodyne I finally quit the company. With the re-org that’s happening because of JV with Pfizer, they’re moving my Role to Europe and unfortunately i’m not mobile due to Family Reason. We can’t find a suitable role in South East Asia and I decided to go back to Indonesia and have a short break before I go and find my next role

How the PANDEMIC CHANGE EVERYTHING:

During jan-mar when i was still on garden leave with GSK, I spent a lot of time pursuing my personal interest, I tried to be a career coach to help other great Indonesian talent by having discussion with them, sharing my experience in hope that they will too able to seize the opportunity when it is presented to them. Aditiyo Indrasanto is kind enough to allow me to join his #sekolahkarir and provide me the platform to meet a lot of people/talents that are open for ways to improve themselves, it was a great experience for me in attending those sessions and met those great talents, i recommend people that want to improve how they sell themselves, better in acing those difficult interview or general navigation in dealing with work situation to attend his class 

I want to take it up a step and have a podcast session where we can really discuss the real work situation that you cant really discuss in the office, so me and Desinia Estiningputri created a “lunch work talk” where we discussed multiple important issues around professional work. We had recorded 3 sessions and have invest in proper post editing for our viewers, but of course COVID happen

We cant find a way to make it work and we park this project for now

There’s not a lot of companies hiring during those period (in fact more people lost their job here in Indonesia) me and my wife decided that we wont just sit around waiting for our luck to turn so we decided to open up our own business :) we opened a restaurant “foodpedia” and a coffee place “kopi dari hati” in pekayon Bekasi in August and put a lot of our savings and energy in making it work, the restriction that happened for COVID really makes it difficult for us to be agressive in promotion and we are being patient in growing our restaurant

then GREAT OPPORTUNITY COMES along :

When i knew i was about to leave GSK in 2019, I started to look for “what’s next for me” and whilst my overall approach is to see what my recruiters colleague might have, I personally made a direct approach to GOJEK as I find them inspiring (i found them as a bold and great organization when they decided to enter Singapore market), it turns out they did have an opening back then and i was involved in the process. But it didnt work out as they had a hiring freeze at the end of year and the following year they had gone with other candidate, it was not meant to be at that time

from that point i’ve gone through lots of hiring process where most of them went silent after couple of discussions, some I didnt take as i feel it’s not the right next step for me after i understand about the role more and i havent been able to find anything for 9 months

Then last November, GOJEK reached out again for what i think is a better role and after multiple discussions with various stakholders there i finally got the offer and decided that GOJEK will be my next destination 

I just signed with them today and will be starting next monday as Global Head of Marketing for Transport business unit leading the marketing team both Indonesia and international markets

MY TAKE FROM ALL OF THIS:

- It’s okay to take a decision that is risky as long it’s for the right reason, dont be afraid when you feel you’re closing an opportunity as the decision that you made might take you into an even bigger opportunity in the future that you can’t see just yet

- Invest in yourself, follow your passion whenever possible as you will learn about yourself better and it will give you the right mindset and mental energy for yourself and your company

- Take action and make things happen dont wait for opportunity to fall into your lap, if you can do something to change your luck then push hard for it, even if it takes you outside of your comfort zone (this will help you grow faster)

I really hope the rest of you that are having difficult time because of this Pandemic can also find positive outcome sooner or later, just make sure you keep that POSITIVE mindset and attitude
