What a month!
Every time I think my previous month was eventful and couldn’t be busier, the next month proves me wrong and puts it into perspective. April has certainly been such month.
One of the key highlights of April I want to share was reading Gary Vaynerchuk’s book; Crushing it!
I don’t think I’ve read 200 pages this quick before. It’s about entrepreneurship and building your career around your passion. More importantly, on top of basic principles of building a business, there are dozens and dozens of case studies and interviews with people who have gone enormous lengths to follow their passion. I’m not an emotional person, but one kind of thing that always puts a lump in my throat is when I see or read about people who sacrificed more than anyone ever would for what they believe in.
I’ve recommended the book to pretty much everyone I spoke to this week (you’re welcome Gary). I want people to get a real idea of what it takes to make something worthwhile happen, to see what it means to be serious about your goals, that the struggle is part of the journey, and importantly, that it’s possible to make it happen.
“You’re going to go through a time where you’re not going to make any money. It’s not going to be a week, it’s not going to be a month, it’s not going to be one year. It’s going to be years. And during that time, if you don’t love what you do, it’s going to be very hard to stick it out. That is something that people don’t understand when they hear, “Follow your passion.” They hear rainbows, unicorns, bullshit. But thea truth of it is that it’s important, because if you don’t enjoy what you’re doing, you’re going to be that much more likely to quit when shit’s hard.” ― Gary Vaynerchuk, Crushing It!: How Great Entrepreneurs Build Their Business and Influence—and How You Can, Too.
The book helped me to reflect on my own journey, what I’ve been through, and what it took to get where I am today. Coincidentally, April has been an important month for me as I reached a significant financial milestone.
I’ve also completed the Key Person of Influence 9-month business training by Dent and received a fancy certificate which I’m adding to my collection! (Yes, I’m one of those).
Pursue your passion in life. Amazing things are possible if you devote yourself to it.
“The main thing is realizing that even if you feel terrible for a while, that’s not how you’re going to feel the whole time. . . . Things change if you just keep moving.” ― Gary Vaynerchuk, Crushing It!: How Great Entrepreneurs Build Their Business and Influence—and How You Can, Too.
