MY 15K HANGOVER!

How a single hangover cost a clinic 15K per year?

It was 2021 and clinics were tentatively figuring out how to practice safely in a pandemic.

The main change (apart from PPE) was cleaning time.

Gaps between patients to allow for healing/ airing the room etc.

On a recent Inner Circle call, a client was struggling with why her clinic wasn't generating as much profit as she'd hoped, despite a recent successful hire and great marketing systems.

She was looking for another 12K a year for her to drop from a 4 to a 3 day week.

As we dug into her numbers, we discovered...

a 15K hangover from the pandemic ??

Her main associate had kept her longer appointment times.

It was no longer used for pandemic measures.

Jennifer had discussed it with her associate months before and reported she wanted it to remain.

My thoughts were...we all want things in life.

Heck, I'd like a 28-inch waist.

But sadly, life doesn't work like that (not this side of 40 anyway ??)

This longer appointment time meant:

• she was seeing 2 sometimes 3 less appointments a day
• her patients were getting a longer treatment for the same price as with other practitioners (which patients had clocked on to and her list was fit to burst, and she was showing signs of burnout).

And this was having a very real impact on Jennifer's bottom line...With some ballpark maths, we estimated at least ￡15K annually.

It's amazing how easy it is to miss the drain a small change can have on your practice numbers.

Just like a hangover can drain your energy and ruin your weekend.
