The display screenshot was captured in June 2023 when I uploaded my 100th video on YouTube.
In this article, I am going to share about breaking barriers, the journey, and the lesson behind the 100 videos I made.
? Breaking Barriers
I am an introvert.
Speaking in front of the camera was never my cup of tea, even though I am a videographer.
Someone asked me, “How do you start your YouTube channel?”
I chuckled before answering the question.
“Just like my business, it’s the same as how I started my YouTube channel,” I said.
I jump first swim later
I have this habit of doing things first without thinking it through.
But the universe has been kind.
I received so many experiences — which I will share in my journey in the next point
I remember my first video and how awkward I was. I was staring at the lens of the camera without blinking.
My niece commented the hard truth, “Why aren’t you blinking and looking like a robot?”
The truth is your first video is going to look bad and cringey. And it’s okay.
Here's how I overcome it. Watch the video below
100th video later, I am not afraid to go out of the script as long as I put across the points I want to for my audience.
? The Journey
When I first started I was creating videos for the sake of creating.
Neither do I have a strategy nor plan on how I should grow my YouTube channel.
I was creating videos based on my gut feel.
Example: This week, it’s all about video tips. Next week, all about tutorials.
In a nutshell, I was experimenting with the type of videos for my audience.
6 months into the YouTube world, I received invitations to speak about video marketing and video content.

I was also hired by an organisation to teach their community about creating videos on YouTube.
I looked at this as a success for me because my YouTube videos have reached the correct audience.
In my headspace..
I got clients because of my YouTube videos! Woooohhhooo!
But in terms of growing my channel itself, I was still without strategies and plans.
I was still all over the place.
Until one fine day, I burned out.
I stopped creating videos on YouTube. I began to think I was not cut out for YouTube.
I took a step back, analysed the videos I have done, and see what I can do better for my YouTube.
I attended meetups and networking sessions that gather YouTube creators to learn from them.
After a year of hiatus — with a lot of consuming and learning, I came back to creating YouTube videos.
If you want to know some of my mistakes, I shared in my video below:
? The Lesson
If there’s one thing I learned from my YouTube journey is..
“Sometimes to move forward you might need to take a few steps back. And there’s no loss in doing something that hurts in the short run but proves worthwhile in time.”
I am glad I took the 1-year break to analyse what I should do next.
And today, I am proud to say I came back to the YouTube world with better clarity, and a solid strategy so that I can grow my YouTube channel.
I share my 40s journey, managing caregiving and business, and offering YouTube insights for entrepreneurs.
