My 10 year career story from Telco to Fitness to Finance
The past ten years in my career has flown by! The end of a decade seemed like an excellent opportunity to reflect on my career story.
My ten-year journey with Optus started in 2011. I started working in an Optus retail store during university and worked my way up to corporate through various marketing roles. Parallel to this career progression was development of my self-awareness and immense personal growth. Working at Optus had fulfilled my dream of being a part of a larger organisation. It imparted the leadership and management skills and experience for me to now take on the future chapters of my working life. I will miss all my talented colleagues, and I will always be a #loyalcustomer
Whilst working in corporate, I had wanted to challenge myself and try something different. In 2017, over a coffee with Peter Day (who I had actually met at Optus), I shared my desire to start a business with my passion for health and fitness. A few weeks later, we signed the contracts to co-own the F45 Training Chatswood gym.
Running our business whilst working full-time was tough but witnessing the incredible fitness community we have built and the lives we’ve played a small part in changing for the better, has made it all worth it.
In my early career, I had also begun investing in property and this became a strong passion. I was keen to make my hard earned money work harder and generate multiple income streams for my future self. Looking back now, I am so glad I began investing in my 20’s.
In 2020, my partner and I decided to share our investing journey. We realised there were a lot of people who were chasing financial independence but didn’t know where to start. Sharing our story would hopefully empower others to be able to make more informed decisions about their money, and confidently invest in their financial futures.
That’s when I discovered what I really wanted to do, to be able to positively impact people’s lives through better health and wealth, just as fitness and property investing has done for me.
This led to me pursuing a new career in finance starting up my own mortgage broking business JD Capital Australia to empower everyday Australians towards financial independence.
Through the many life lessons, this one resonated to me most - Chase your passions and seek massive fulfillment! I am definitely not saying everyone needs to quit their day-job, but try different things, find what brings you joy and purpose, and most importantly, enjoy the process! :)
