My 10+1 favourite People Analytics books
A couple of people have asked me recently about books to help them get started in People Analytics and I am happy to say that there is now a whole lot of great books on the hottest topic in HR.
In this post I have selected just a few that I have read (or currently have on my Kindle app, queued to read) that I think are awesome.
(Please click on the picture of the book for to learn more or to purchase)
1. Starting at the very beginning, the one that kicked it all off:
People Analytics: How Social Sensing Technology Will Transform Business and What It Tells Us about the Future of Work - Ben Waber
2. My own starting point in People Analytics reading:
Work Rules - Insights from Inside Google That Will Transform How You Live and Lead Laszlo Bock
3. The one that should be everyone’s starting point:
People Analytics for Dummies – Mike West
4. The best one for going deep on creating value (by the two best dressed blokes in our field):
Excellence in People Analytics: How to Use Workforce Data to Create Business Value – Jonathan Ferrar and David Green ????
5. The best for going into the details (and the best one out of Australia):
Predictive HR Analytics: Mastering the HR Metric – Martin Edwards & Kirsten Edwards

6. The best one for stretching your mind around the potential of AI:
Artificial Intelligence for HR: Use AI to Support and Develop a Successful Workforce – Ben Eubanks
7 & 8. The best ones on modelling, graphs and networks for all the R and Python nerds:
Handbook of Regression Modelling in People Analytics and Handbook of Graphs and Networks in People Analytics – Keith McNulty
9. The best one that goes deep on the hybrid workplace:
Humans at Work: The Art and Practice of Creating the Hybrid Workplace – Anna A. Tavis, PhD and Stela Lupushor
?
10. Stela must have been busy this year, because she also wrote this epic on business value:
Humanizing Human Capital: Invest in Your People for Optimal Business Returns – Dr. Solange Charas and Stela Lupushor
11. The best one on data and workforce planning:
Organizational Planning and Analysis: Building the Capability to Secure Business Performance – Rupert Morrison
I know there are heaps more great books on and around People Analytics, and I don’t mean this as any sort of a serious “best of list”, these are just books that have tickled my fancy and excited my enthusiasm.
Please let me know if there are anymore that I should add in.
Also if you are suffering from insomnia, then I would suggest you search your local second hand book store, or rubbish dump for a copy of what may have been the most boring book in the world:
Writing instructor and coach—unlock your natural writing abilities | Ph.D. candidate researching link between employee engagement & communication
