My 10 Day Silent Meditation: Reflections 3 Months On...

It's been 3 months now since the

10 day?Silent Vipassana Meditation

Most people have been asking 3 questions.

1 Was it worth it? Absolutely.

2 Would I do it again? Hell no.

3 Did it change my life? Let me explain…?

11 hours of silent meditation each day.?

No eye contact. No phones. No writing. No exercise.?

For?

10?

WHOLE?

Days.?

Was I having a crisis??

Quite the opposite.

I felt ready to connect deeper to myself.

To let go of external validation and opinions that had influenced my life so far.

Quietening down the outside world, I wanted to hear what my internal world was whispering.?

> > What did I already know??

The really tough bits:

? Little sleep and food?= Low energy sent my?negative thoughts spiralling many times?during meditation. Sometimes it felt like you were in the boxing ring in your own mind.

? Physical pain?= Sitting in a cross legged position all day was pretty?uncomfortable.?

? Length of days?=?Check out the timetable below.?Day 1 felt like the longest day of my life.?I'd never meditated longer than maybe 30 mins at once before, usually with a calming guided soft voice. Here I was jumping into?11 hours of silence. Uncomfortable in all sense of the word.

The good bits:

? When it ended?=??I'm only semi joking... The benefits I’ve felt have definitely been after the experience ended and I could integrate the learnings into my everyday life.

? 0 stimulation?= No talking or phones... my mind had space and peace to think clearly for the first time in years.?

? Routine?= Timings were super strict for good reason, they knew what would support us.

? Flow of ideas?= Sadly nowhere to write them down, so most I've forgotten! But the realisation that so many answers are always there within me was powerful.

What is Vipassana?

The practice of Vipassana is essentially learning the Law of impermanence - i.e. trusting the everything passes.

You're taught a simple body scan, where you notice the sensations felt across you. The emphasis here is on?noticing?> reacting.?

Translating this to real life >>

When you react to situations, shift your focus to the sensations in your body rather than the thoughts in your mind, and understand that feeling will pass.

Your reaction loses its power, the narrative of the meaning of the reaction lessens, and you can?move back to a more centred place.?

>> You will always react, you're human, but the difference lies in how to move through this emotion.

The?#1 lesson?I took from the whole experience:

A deep, secure trust in myself.

I believe it's from a number of factors.?

  • The pride I feel?after completing such a mentally tough experience.?
  • The comfort and love I created for myself when reflecting on difficult memories in meditation.
  • The ideas and clarity that came through when I was able to connect inward.

I feel different. I've been searching for that trust for so long. Truly.

It was within me all along.

??

This meditation has added to depth in?the support I now offer?my clients, and it is just?incredible.

By experiencing this inner?quiet connection, learning how to listen to my body and understand the mind -?I know exactly how to help and guide my clients?to reach that same point (without the 10 days of hell).?

Emotions are there to be felt.

E-motion.

Energy in motion.?

My calm and centred approach, ripples into my clients lives to help them feel the same.

Experience that trust for yourself

>> I help women become emotionally confident, so they can have amazing relationships in and out the workplace. I'd love to support you to build deep trust in yourself to feel the same way.

With love,

Lizzie

Incredibly brave of you and how interesting your insights. I'd love a much shorter version, we get so consumed into the distractions and mental chatter Lizzie Butcher
