MWC18: Same Old Story for the Industrial Internet of Things?

Mobile World Congress (MWC) showcased a wide variety of IoT service offerings, making it clear that market differentiation is crucial for IT and communications vendors looking to secure end-to-end IoT business. This is doubly true for picking up international business, which carriers in particular are looking to as a source of new revenues. NB-IoT and LTE-M open the market up for risk-averse companies that have had cost concerns. But while telcos look to secure software and services business to go up the stack, platform and infrastructure vendors are fierce competitors. Someone is going to lose. Carriers need to demonstrate real innovation focused on business outcomes rather than taking the easy way out with the same ubiquitous use cases that require minimal innovation and investment.
