In last week’s edition of the IoT Pulse, we discussed the increasingly powerful combination of AI and IoT. The two technologies can work together to improve decision-making, increase efficiency, and help with the bottom line.?

Today, we spotlight Matt Hatton , Founding Partner at Transforma Insights , on the IoT For All Podcast to discuss the intersection between IoT and AI and more specifically,? insights from recent industry event MWC Barcelona 2024, an event Matt has attended for 18+ years.

For those who aren’t familiar, MWC Barcelona is one of the world’s largest and most influential connectivity-focused events. This year, over the course of 4 days, over 100,000 people attended the conference, and over 2,700 companies produced exhibitions or sponsorships for the event. So this conference truly is a global meeting of the minds.?

“Every year there is a new buzzword at this event, and this year it was generative AI. Given that this event really is geared towards telecom, it’s interesting to see how these companies are thinking about generative AI and its applications. It seems that there is a lot of interest in operational applications, such as customer care programs, chatbots, and network management.?

Interestingly, conversations around AI were still rather broad and more so focused on existing processes and using AI to reduce your bottom line, what we call the ‘low hanging fruit’ applications. However, there were fewer conversations about how AI combined with IoT can create a fundamental shift in how we do business. So a lot of businesses were sort of missing the trick here and not yet capitalizing on the combination of AI and IoT in their operations.”?

Matt’s insights confirm that AIoT is still in its infancy. While “AIoT” technology is the new buzzword in 2024, it will still take time for businesses to understand its applications and adopt it in ways that will reimagine how businesses function not just in the connectivity landscape, but across all industries.?

The true opportunity for companies as we move through 2024 will be for those who harness the power of both IoT and AI, and deliver value-added solutions that solve particular problems in particular industries.

Be sure to listen to the full podcast episode where Matt shares more insights from other events such as Channel Partners, his latest views on navigating the IoT industry, and key trends and expectations from IoT that he observed while attending MWC Barcelona.?
