Mutualistic Relationship of Sports & Faith

Sports & faith is an area of sports which I have been thinking about over the years and in recent times I have gotten the privilege to work in. Came across an article by Michelle Moore in my current sports course and she said: "Only by understanding the intersections between aspects of identity such as faith, gender, ethnicity and culture will we be able to generate strategies that genuinely lead to broader participation in sport". I love and agree 100% with this statement. People beginning to understand the role of faith in sports is crucial to not just participation but the integrity of sports. I believe that faith and religion can play a key role in restoring the integrity of sports which unfortunately is slowly becoming extinct. All faiths from Christianity, Islam, Judaism etc have values and principles adds value to the character and performance of an individual. These same values such as integrity, compassion, perseverance, empathy, teamwork etc are needed in the performance and success of sports principles such as fair play, togetherness, and sportsmanship. Just observe sports professionals who don't shy from their faith are amongst those who represent the sports world in the best light. So if you love sports don't let that force you to shy aware from your faith, rather let it influence the way you play and share your sports passion with others.
