Must read books for risk managers, how many have you read?
One of the most common complaints about my publications is that it’s perceived as “Alex’s way or no way.” That couldn’t be further from the truth. There is no such thing as Alex’s way, because in my day-to-day work as the Head of Risk and Insurance, I apply the ideas and methodologies that I pick up from influential books on risk management and decision making. You don’t have to take my word for it. RAW2024 is in October, and I invite you to come and listen to many of the book authors themselves.
RISK AWARENESS WEEK 2024 is probably the largest risk management and decision making virtual conference in the world. Each year, since its start in 2019, between 3000 and 5000 risk and decision professionals from 120+ countries use the conference as a risk management learning opportunity. This year we are focusing on how risk, decision and insurance professionals can use AI to optimise their work. It will be massive!
October might seem far away, but that gives you plenty of time to prepare and make the most out of the conference. To help you get ready, I’ve curated an official RAW2024 reading list featuring 25 essential books that are must read for anyone working with risks, risk professionals or decision makers alike. These books encompass practical techniques, psychological insights, and advanced methodologies that will enhance your understanding of both traditional and AI-enhanced risk management practices. I have read 100+ books on risk management and decision making and these 25 are the ones I use in my work and in planning the agenda for RAW2024.

I often warn people I work with that I say stuff that is plain wrong just to get the discussion and ultimately the creativity flowing towards a common understanding. When you are wrong people a more likely to explain why they don’t agree, well unless they say “just because!”.
