Must have items for the working nomad

Must have items for the working nomad

Gone are the days of working for the same company, in the same office, for 40 years until retirement. Technology has provided us the opportunity to explore our dreams and make them into a reality, from virtually anywhere.

Perhaps you’ve been traveling and working for a while or you just began your remote work journey, we’ve got you covered on all of the must haves items to be a successful working nomad.

Reliable and lightweight laptop — We recommend the?MacBook Pro 13”

If you’re an entrepreneur, you know that staying connected at all times is paramount to growing your business. To ensure you’re able to work from anywhere, a reliable laptop is key. One perk of being able to travel and work at the same time is the different places and climates you’ll encounter along your journey. A downside of this is laptops are more prone to issues when exposed to things like humidity, heat, and quick dips in temperature.

The Macbook Pro is certainly an investment up front, but these bad boys will last you for many years to come. They can withstand falls, bumpy roads, and changes in temperature like no other.

Portable Internet Connection — We recommend the?Verizon Wireless Jetpack?(must be a Verizon customer)

Having all of the best gadgets are useless if you can’t connect to the internet. We recommend the Verizon Wireless Jetpack mobile hotspot to stay connected anywhere. Other providers such as AT&T have their own version but we’ve found that Verizon has the best coverage overall in the US.

One perk of the Jetpack is the built-in VPN which keeps your connection secure. Pre-COVID, we enjoyed frequenting cafes and libraries to work. We loved the free WiFi but did not love joining guest networks and having our information vulnerable. This hotspot ensures your information is safe and protected.

Soundproof headphones — We recommend the?Sony Noise Cancelling Headphones

This may seem like a frivolous item to have on our list but hear us out. Working from anywhere means you can’t always control the space around you. You may find yourself working on a long flight, in a loud cafe (both post-COVID of course), or from a space that you’re sharing with others. Noise cancelling headphones are a great gadget to keep out that unwanted noise and help you stay focused.

World Travel Power Adapter

If you travel internationally or plan on traveling to other countries in the future, this is a must. Power sockets can vary from country to country and without this handy appliance you may not be able to use your laptop or other essentials to work. Best part is these can be picked up from virtually anywhere. Check out your local Target, Wal-Mart or Amazon.

External Hard Drive — We recommend the?Silicon Power 2TB External Hardrive

This harddrive has it all. It’s portable, small, shockproof (can verify this after driving over many bumps), AND waterproof. Hard drives have a bad reputation of being bulky but this one is quite slim and can fit in virtually any bag.

Honorable Mentions

Here are some additional items that should also be included in your working nomad toolkit:

  • Extension chord
  • USB
  • Power bank
  • Backpack
  • Cable organizers
  • Water bottle
