Musselmania has begun
Arkansas basketball has come out of the gates with a tenacity that has not been seen in the 21st century. Coach Eric Musselman has started his tenure 6-0 and has claim to one of if not the best defenses in the country. This wild band of Razorback hogs has been viscous on the defensive end. They are the first team since the 1940s to hold their first 3 teams under 50 points in each game. This success has translated into fans starting to take notice.
After a dismal football season, Arkansas fans are hungry to see a Razorback team so some signs of success. The Hoop Hogs have answered this call in ways that no one truly expected. This Arkansas team was projected to finish 11th in the conference, were said to not be able to rebound or stop anyone, and were told they were one season away from real progress. Well, Coach Muss has been quick to silence all the doubters. The Arkansas fans have seen this and have responded in big ways.
The student section has been the most apparent difference between last year and this year. Students have been filling their seats up, even for no name non-conference games on a Tuesday night. I have had to get to games almost an hour and a half early in order to secure my spot on the front row. Coach Muss has been passionate about getting students to come to games, he even resorted to putting on a shark costume and calling for the fabled Sharkansas group to return.
The students are really the heart of any crowd. In the past few years it has been nearly impossible for them to show up to games that do not involve teams such as Kentucky or LSU. This is starting to shift due to the combination of on court success and Coach Musselman's passion for student involvement. Its time to stand up and CALL THOSE HOGS!
