Musings & reflections: Christianity
I came across these verses today, and reflected upon the thoughts and doings of many, so called "Christians" of today and of others.
Although God is speaking to Israel, when they made their sacrifices, brought in their tithes and offerings and sang their songs of joy, and prayed for God's blessings of peace and prosperity, and yet this is what God said to them:
"I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies. :22 Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts. :23 Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols. :24 But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream." Amos 5:21-24
Many go to church on Sundays because of tradition, many sit in services singing "Oh how I love Jesus", yet their hearts and minds are somewhere else; many bring their tithes and offerings, not because you are expected to honour God with your finances too, but rather you think God will bless you with much more if you were to give. Many pray and look spiritual, and yet they cannot read God's word, nor apply any to their hearts and minds and outward behaviour, nor do they apply God's word to their business and families and to strangers, their hearts are far from the things of God. While many others think that they don't need the church, nor is it important to go, or at best they go as many times as they deem it necessary (twice or three times a year maybe or is it to satisfy the Pastor?). To all these people who believe that God will overlook your darkened hearts and attitudes who rebel against Him, who think that God will balance your good with the bad, who think that God accepts your personage before Him, here is a wake up call for you!
