Musings

I often find myself in the midst of breathtaking scenes that leave me in awe of the beauty and power of nature. Recently, however, I was reminded of the devastating impact that nature can have on our lives. While on assignment in the southern part of our country, I saw a WFP helicopter flying overhead. At that moment, I was reminded of the recent cyclone that had wreaked havoc in the region, leaving behind a trail of destruction and despair.

It's been a couple of weeks since the cyclone hit, and while the news coverage may have died down, the impact of the disaster is still being felt by thousands of people across the southern part of the country. Homes, crops, and livelihoods have been lost, and the road to recovery is a long and arduous one. It's hard to imagine the scale of the devastation and the trauma that people are still grappling with.

As a nation, we have come together in times of crisis, and the cyclone was no exception. From individuals who leveraged their networks to rally support, to the heroes who drove Land Rover to rescue those stranded in inaccessible areas, our collective response was heartening. It's true what they say - not all heroes wear capes.

But amidst the fanfare and the rescue efforts, there are many unsung heroes who continue to work tirelessly to help those in need. They may not make the headlines, but their contribution is no less significant. In the aftermath of the cyclone, there are many who are living in camps and inaccessible areas, and it's heartening to know that there are people who are working hard to ensure that their basic needs are met.

As a photographer, I have had the privilege of capturing some of the scenes that have unfolded in the wake of the cyclone. I have seen firsthand the resilience and courage of the human spirit. It's a reminder that even in the face of the worst disasters, we have the capacity to come together, to support one another, and to rebuild our lives.
