I've been doing an annual review between Christmas and New Year since 2017. I've written it in the same book so that I can compare year on year. I could do it electronically, but, you know. Writing ??
I’ve used the Best Self template since 2019, which starts off by inviting me to rate my life out of 10 in the areas of relationships, finance, work/career, emotional wellbeing, love and environment.
Each year the ratings dip up and down a bit, and it helps me to decide what I want to focus on the following year.
Each year I come back to it and go oh yeah, that seemed really important a year ago.?But I did this instead, and it worked out OK. A bit like an annual appraisal that comes out once a year, when you and your boss realise that the goals you set a year ago were out of date within a couple of months and you've done something entirely different.
But this year… wow! This time last year I was living and working in London, planning to sell my flat and relocate to an office near the coast, looking forward to continuing my work leading DEI in a global comapany.
By July, I’d sold my flat (tick), living just about as far away from the sea as it’s possible to get (ummm…) and I’d left my job and company of 23 years (whaaaaat…?!).

Now, I’m combining caring for my mum with building an inclusion business. Never in my wildest imagination was that something that would happen within the next 12 months, never mind the next six.
I’ve learned more about writing on LinkedIn (thanks Tim Denning and Todd Brison ), setting up a business (thanks, um, me) and staying patient (thanks mum!) than I ever thought I’d need to.
It’s been a year of wild excitement and abject terror, desperate sadness and total euphoria. Heaven only knows what 2023 will look like... ??
So toodle-oo, 2022. Let it be, 2023.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, lovely readers, for supporting my work and business over the last few months. See you next year!
