The Music of the Spheres

The Music of the Spheres

Are you sensitive to music? It’s amazing that we can be so deeply moved by a particular song or by a great composer. Have you noticed how you react to your favourite melodies, the pieces that make you smile and generate a warm glow inside? We’ve always known that certain frequencies contain the potential to stimulate a wide range of reactions in our bodies and minds. The key is to identify the music that resonates most powerfully for you and helps to raise your spirits, calm your anxieties and boost your feelings of wellbeing. Let’s take a slightly unusual look at the potential of the power of music.

We’ve touched on the popular Solfeggio frequencies in previous discussions and we know that they’ve been a staple of classical and liturgical compositions for centuries. Recent research suggests that we respond very positively to these calming compositions. The same cannot be said for the vast majority of current popular music that seems to have a distinctly negative impact on our inner peace, calm and wellbeing. We might be more sensitive to discordant frequencies than our conscious minds would believe. But, if everything is connected, we shouldn’t be surprised that we’re as receptive to sound as we are to the shades and colours we perceive through our eyes.

In ancient times, music was considered as sacred, a gift from the gods and a portal to the spheres of the divine. According to legend, Pythagoras, the celebrated classical mathematician whose theorems have caused anxiety to generations of schoolchildren, was renowned for using specific harmonies to heal, restore and calm all manner of disorders. Now we realise that certain frequencies are conducive to healing so we shouldn’t be surprised that music retains the potential to influence our bodies at a profound level.

Since in our busy, modern world, we are almost continually exposed to sound, it would make sense to exercise more control over the kind of noise we’re prepared to admit into our environment. The conclusion is that we should choose our music with care. It’s fun to experiment with different styles and genres and pay attention to the way our minds and bodies react. When you find a rhythm and frequency that enhances your happiness and wellbeing, you’ll have a fabulous tool for taking better control of your mood, your energy, your creativity and your capacity to relax completely. What a fabulous gift to grant yourself in the quest for greater happiness, joy, health and fulfilment.
