Use of Production?Music?on Broadcast and Cable TV Reaches New Heights: Study

Production?music, formerly known as “stock?music,” is specifically composed for use in media productions, typically as part of a catalog of?music?made available for immediate?licensing, and where the publisher and recording owner are the same. It can be written specifically for a series but unlike conventional scoring, is generally not tailored to specific scenes.

Other findings included:?music?used in ads, promos and trailers made up 20% of the total when?music?was present; production?music?is used 6.5 times more than commercial?music

Rightsholder Play Catelogue Hokey-Cokey with Resso and Meta

The hokey-cokey spotlight now moves on to Resso, ByteDance’s?music-streaming service in India, Brazil and Indonesia. Billboard and MBW both reported that Sony?Music?has pulled its catalogue from the service in all three countries. While neither side has commented officially, Resso users have been expressing their frustration on social media at the disappearance of?music?by popular Sony-signed artists.

Is this specific to the terms being offered by Resso, or a lever being pulled as rightsholders start amping up the pressure on its parent company, ByteDance, over the way TikTok licenses and pays for?music? Time will tell.

Yout Circumvents Youtube’s Protection Measures, Court Concludes

The US record industry has scored a win in its ongoing battle against stream-ripping – and, in particular, against the most bullish stream-ripping platform of the moment, good old Yout. A judge has concluded that Yout has failed to prove that it doesn’t circumvent ‘technical protection measures’ put in place by YouTube to stop streams from being ripped. And, as a result, its service violates the US Digital Millennium?Copyright?Act.

Youtube Announces Creator?Music, a New Way for Creators to Shop for?Songs?for Use in Videos

Creator?Music, now in beta testing. This new destination will introduce a large catalog of?songs?that creators can browse through, search and purchase, with the terms of the?music?rights?spelled out in simple terms so they understand the costs. They’ll also be able to opt for tracks with new revenue-sharing option where both creators and?music?rights?holders earn money from their content.
